White House aides lean on delays and distraction to manage Trump

Source: Politico

In interviews, senior staff and others close to the president have described a series of guardrails they use to push the president away from rash decisions.

By JOSH DAWSEY 10/09/2017 05:19 PM EDT

As White House chief of staff, Reince Priebus mused to associates that telling President Donald Trump no was usually not an effective strategy. Telling him “next week” was often the better idea.

Trump would impulsively want to fire someone like attorney general Jeff Sessions, create a new wide–ranging policy with far–flung implications like increasing tariffs on Chinese steel imports or end a decades–old deal like the North American Free Trade Agreement. Enraged with a TV segment or frustrated after a meandering meeting, the president would order it done immediately.

Delaying the decision would give Priebus and others a chance to change his mind or bring in advisers to speak with Trump – and in some cases, to ensure Trump would drop the idea altogether and move on.

Publicly, the White House has pushed back against Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker suggesting Trump must be managed like a toddler – he called the White House an “adult day care center” on Twitter Sunday. In a separate New York Times interview, Corker said aides are forced to spend their days trying to keep the president from going off the rails.

Remember the good old days (seems so long ago) when we had an ADULT in the WH, with competant, educated people around him? The go picks their stupid, bottom of the barrel, ignorant candidates to "lead their party" I think they outdid themselves this time.

He is a smart man, and a democratic supporter. He would have made a better president than tRump. Her is an idea for a fundraiser for tRump. On the WH lawn, have Ivana and Maleria naked mud wrestle, with Marla as MC. Those classy ladies tRump marries would likely go for it if the prize was high enough.

Honey Huan worked as translator for Mao himself. She revealed to US Ambassador Duke that she was one of the few people who still understood him with his rural dialect and health problems, and even she wasn't sure what he said sometimes. Specifically, she was afraid she might have caused the Cultural Revolution by mistranslating a lunch order.

Not to mention her having to take Mao's indecisive nature into account when she translated for him.

On one occasion, Mao told her to send word for the Great Wall of China to be destroyed. She tells him the next day it had been dismantled.

A week later, Mao tells her he's changed his mind and wants the entire Wall rebuilt exactly as it was.

Honey tells the Chairman she personally devised a plan which got the entire Wall rebuilt in one day.

Honey then reveals to Duke she actually spent the whole week watching TV, but "Mao thinks I'm a genius."

To which Duke replies "In a way, Honey, you are."

IMO, Russia home grows Is terrorists in their wilder outback, funds terrorists. They foment violence and pay "troublemakers" inside the USA. Republican party takes money/colludes with that country, helps them hurt our democracy. it's disgusting!
