Utah Police Office who handcuffed Nurse fired

Source: abc7Chicago

SALT LAKE CITY --
A Utah police officer who was caught on video roughly handcuffing a nurse because she refused to allow a blood draw was fired Tuesday in a case that became a flashpoint in the ongoing national conversation about police use of force.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown made the decision after an internal investigation found evidence Detective Jeff Payne violated department policies when he arrested nurse Alex Wubbels and dragged her out of the hospital as she screamed on July 26, said Sgt. Brandon Shearer, a spokesman for the department.

Attorney Greg Skordas has said Payne served the department well for nearly three decades and questioned whether his behavior warranted termination. He couldn't immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.

Payne's supervisor, Lt. James Tracy, was also demoted to officer. His lawyer, Ed Brass, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

He'll probably win on review and retire
Sadly, for some reason, video proof doesn't seem to count for much when it's police misconduct

He was the watch commander. He was there. He ordered Payne to arrest her. He witnessed the whole thing and did nothing to stop Payne from mistreating the nurse.

Here's Tracy mansplaing things to the nurse while the goon, Payne, looks on

I'm pissed.

Aside from his supervisory role in sparking the incident, he illegally held the nurse in the squad car, lectured/grilled her in a threatening and patronizing manner, and implied that his view of how the law should work trumped the actual law.

Also, from the article:

Payne had previously been disciplined in 2013 after internal-affairs investigators confirmed that he sexually harassed a female co-worker in a "persistent and severe" way.

Why the hell did Payne still have a job anyway after that - either as a cop or as a paramedic (the latter job, he's now also been fired from)?

like that, women near Payne need to be wary. THIS guy is probably pissed beyond measure and it wouldn't be surprising if he didn't lash out in a violent way. Being a cop, he probably has his own arsenal at home. Hope folks are keeping an eye out for Nurse Wubbels, too.

of him suddenly snapping when challenged, manhandling the nurse and bundling her out of the door, then pinioning her while he handcuffed her.

when someone shows you who they are, believe them. Chances are that behavior wasn't a one time thing.
