Ryan: Feds have duty to help Puerto Rico

Source: The Hill

BY SCOTT WONG - 10/12/17 12:45 PM EDT

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Thursday that Puerto Rico is facing a “humanitarian crisis” and argued that the federal government has a responsibility to provide personnel and aid to the hurricane-ravaged island territory.

But Ryan also appeared to defend controversial remarks by President Trump that federal resources cannot remain in Puerto Rico “forever,” saying the territory needs to get back "on its own two feet." The president did not make similar comments about two other regions that have been slammed by hurricanes, Houston and south Florida.

“Yes, we need to make sure that Puerto Rico can begin to stand on its own two feet,” Ryan told reporters at his weekly news conference. “They’ve already had tough fiscal problems to begin with. ... We’ve got to do more to help Puerto Rico rebuild its own economy so that it can be self-sufficient.”

The speaker visited the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters last week and is leading a bipartisan congressional delegation to Puerto Rico on Friday to see firsthand the damage and recovery effort. Thousands of Puerto Ricans are still without power, water and health care, according to news reports.

They've never shown before that they give a damn, really surprised to see this now. Since I know for sure he doesn't give a damn about poor people dying or being hurt or he wouldn't be pushing hard cuts to healthcare along with major cuts to Medicare and SS. Why does he all of a sudden care about PR's ppl? Is this finally reaching a tipping point where he realizes Americans will turn against his party in droves if he doesn't do something to alleviate the murderous racist tendencies of Hair Furor?

Sick how he tries to normalize Drumpf by changing what the orange assface said to make it sound semi-human instead of mad killer, which is what Drumpf intended.

Re-election is all he cares about and maintaining power so they can continue sticking it to the poor and aged and kids etc.

I seriously hope this isn't an effort to say PR is doing fine and we can cut back assistance! That's more in line with the way Eddie Munster usually handles things.

OTOH - this did say it's a bi-partisan group that's going there, so maybe this could do some good?

I just don't trust Ryan, one bit.

Eddie Munster only does what his benefactors the Kochs tell him. And hurricane season ain't over yet - plus you have insane wildfires going on in California too.

"Governing is hard" for the GOP and they refuse to do so.

that to even do that, they have to actually DO SOME WORK in order to make it so (hearings, legislative markups, debates, CBO scoring etc). Instead, they have passed that part off to a couple of their mindless staffers, lobbyists, and has-been former GOP elected officials to write behind closed doors... And when their garbage finally gets presented to either chamber for review, they find it is so riddled with inconsistencies and budget-busters, that it is doomed to failure.

read the Polls and they are scared pure crapless. Ryan's numbers in his District are most likely showing him getting his Ass handed to him by a Iron Worker.

Remember,October of the year before Elections is the unofficial kick off to the Campaign Season. Interesting how this will play out after this Congressional Break, hunch says,Ryan and McConnell will try to jam legislation thru via Reconciliation and it will be ugly.

I only expect ugly and nauseating from them and am surprised when they pretend to be human, every once in a while.

accelerate in the next few days. Remember,Dingle Ling Donnie is going to Asia for three weeks starting Monday. Every thing by the GOP is done for the Optics it creates. Today's News Cycle is being captured by Weinstein and the other Molester in Chief, curiously, the peoples interest just took one hell of a hit by the latter.

Ryan is the Koch Brothers go to Guy and after their purchased manifesto's this past weekend, this is going to be one hell of a ride till Xmas week.

Stop talking and do something. Like, grow a spine. You're an alleged leader. Lead.
