Poll: Solid Majority Wants Trump To Fix Obamacare Instead Of Sabotaging It

Source: Talking Points Memo

By NICOLE LAFOND Published OCTOBER 13, 2017 12:23 PM

A solid majority of the public — 71 percent — wants to see President Donald Trump make Obamacare work instead of dismantling the law, according to a recent poll conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

While the poll was conducted before the White House announced that Trump would end crucial subsidies for insurers under Obamacare, 60 percent of respondents said they want to keep the payments in tact. The payments help low-income people afford insurance coverage. On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order to make it easier for people to purchase more stripped down insurance plans.

Thirty percent considered the subsidies — called cost-sharing reduction (CSR) — a bailout to insurance companies and said the program should end.

Democrats (93 percent) and Independents (74 percent) were far more supportive of the idea than Republicans. About half of the Republicans surveyed — 48 percent — said they’d like to see the Trump administration make the current health care law work. Four in 10 Republicans said Trump should make the law fail, according to the poll.

There should never be a doubt. Obamacare, as originally designed, was only a first step toward full government control of the health care system, its finances, and its resources, to ensure all individuals, no matter race or class, gets equal, free health care, paid for through a much-needed wealth redistribution protocol from rich, mostly white males to the general welfare of this country. The fact that private entities, including greedy insurance companies, selfish doctors who restrict their medical prodcedures to (again) rich, white males and their families, and finally, a system which forces the closure of hospitals and clinics that are specifically directed to the (soon to be majority-) minority community.

ANY tinkering, therefore, is akin to shifting resources straight to white privilege. This country is SOOO steeped in oppressive white supremacy that it looks as if there will be complete destruction of humanity as the only potential outcome. Single payer...NOW!!

Hillarycare. We will not have the majorities needed to pass single payer...nor will we have the courts anytime soon...those who didn't vote for Hillary killed any chance of a progressive revolution and single payer. We better fight like hell to save the ACA. We can build on it otherwise, we get nothing. For all of you who think single payer is around the corner...if we lose the ACA...you are so wrong.

The biggest problem with healthcare, as with any mega-industry, is that the fat cats profit. Unless progressives own the funding and financial redistribution channels to these agencies (as in single-payer), the Republican-led greed of the white supremacist owners will be raking in the trillions.

The ACA was a step in the right direction, but it is dangerous if not full transformed to single payer. This is key.

would get to keep their healthcare via ACA and subsidies and everyone else would lose theirs...you actually get what you vote for. We live a very unfair world where rich, white men control the rest of us.

The majority of Americans want trump and the republican congress to pull the gun out of our collective mouths, but their base insists on pulling the trigger.

Smart GOP will pass legislation that funds ACA with a veto-proof majority.

They have to do this, and let tRump fume and tweet, to save their seats, before it is too late to save them.
