UPDATED: Poll: Most Americans want Trump to deal with Democrats

BY JACQUELINE THOMSEN - 10/15/17 09:22 AM EDT

A majority of Americans is in favor of President Trump making deals with Democrats, according to a CBS/YouGov poll out Sunday.

About 90 percent of Trump's supporters said they are either in favor of or would accept Trump striking a deal with Democrats. A majority of Americans who oppose Trump also said they would like or accept Democrats working with Trump.

Trump broke with his party last month to reach a short-term deal with Democrats to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling. However, pollsters found that most respondents said they believe that Trump’s relationship with Republicans in Congress isn’t strong.

Thirty-nine percent of Republicans said they their representatives don’t like Trump and are actively trying to undermine him. Another 37 percent of Republicans said they think those same GOP lawmakers also don’t like the president, and only “pretend" to pass legislation.

UPDATE:

Poll: Majority think GOP tax plan will benefit the wealthy

By BRENT D. GRIFFITHS 10/15/2017 10:10 AM EDT

A majority of Americans say that Republican plans for changing the tax code will favor the wealthy. According to a new poll,

According to a new CBS News Nation Tracker poll, 58 percent of Americans think the current policies would favor the wealthy, 19 percent think reform would treat everyone equally and 18 percent think that the GOP plan would favor the middle class. Those feelings run counter to attempts by President Donald Trump and congressional leadership to frame the debate as being all about financial relief for the middle class.

The president has tried to court Democrats during the administration's rollout of the tax plan, reportedly hoping that even a couple of Democratic votes could make up for opposition from his own party to elements of the plan.

Among the president's supporters in the CBS poll, nine in 10 either like or are willing to accept the idea of the president making deals with Democrats, in principle. On the other side, a majority of the president's opponents like or would accept Democrats cutting deals with him, with many saying "deal-making is how Washington should work.”

Trump has billed his effort as a Christmas gift for the middle class, but as POLITICO previously reported the current situation with the tax code makes it hard for him to keep his promise that the wealthy will not benefit from reform.

And I don't think democrats should have ANY dealings with this p.o.s. other than to impeach him or otherwise remove this cancer of a man from office.

Have we already forgotten how he would not let the dems even see his health care bill, how they tried to push it through without seeing the cost etc, now he is saying the dems are not co-operating. And let us not call it Obamacare, I think Trumpcare now is a better name or how about Trump does'nt care.
He broke it, he owns it, see if he can fix it.

She replied to one of my letters about healthcare. Her reply said that she is going to reach across the aisle and work with the GOP. I posted it on DU and asked what fellow DUers thought and 100% said NO WAY!

they throw him. I'm sure Trump notices he is alone, isolated in White House. Even his family stays away as much as possible.
