PARIS French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday he told U.S. President Donald Trump not to tear up a nuclear arms deal with Iran, as doing so could lead to a similar standoff as the one with North Korea.
What I told him was not to tear up the deal, Macron told TF1 and LCI in his first live TV interview since taking office. After that I told him, lets have a demanding dialogue, lets continue to conduct checks, but lets be much more demanding with Iran on its ballistic activity.
Trump has stopped short of withdrawing the United States from an international accord signed with Iran in 2015, which seeks to ensure that Tehran will cease activities leading to the development of nuclear arms in exchange for a lifting of economic sanctions.
But the U.S. president, in a speech last Friday, stated that he would not certify the deal, and asked Congress to pass new legislation to toughen sanctions against the regime.

(7,431 posts)Macron knows nothing about Trumpy. If he did, he'd steer clear. Trumpy doesn't operate in the real world, and someone ought to tell him that. Trumpy is a mad man who is also the most powerful person on earth, and that's a verifiable fact. What's WORSE is that the people who can actually rid the country and the world of this situation (the GOP) are sitting on their thumbs, wondering FIRST, how they can take advantage of Trumpy BEFORE tossing him to the wolves. Of course, these wise old numbskulls are content with the risk that Trumpy might mess our country up beyond recognition in record time. They don't care. The best thing that can happen in the next year is that both Trumpy and the GOP get wiped off the political landscape, never to return.
But the best thing likely won't happen. We don't live in that world.
