Trump promises to look into report on drug czar nominee Marino in wake of Post/'60 Minutes' probe

Source: The Washington Post

By Ed O'Keefe, Scott Higham and Lenny Bernstein October 16 at 2:07 PM

President Trump said “we’re going to be looking into” a report about his drug czar nominee Rep. Tom Marino (R-Pa.) in the wake of a Washington Post/”60 Minutes” investigation that found the lawmaker helped steer legislation that made it harder for the government to take some enforcement actions against giant drug companies.

“He was a very early supporter of mine from the great state of Pennsylvania. He’s a great guy, I did see the report, we’re going to look into the report,” Trump told reporters when asked about whether he still supports Marino to lead the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Trump also said he would have a “major announcement probably next week” about how his administration plans to tackle opioid addiction in the United States, a “massive problem” he said that he wants to get “absolutely right.”

“This country and frankly the world has a drug problem,” Trump said. “We’re going to do something about it.”

to see if there is a chance for him or one of his deadbeat unemployed "kids" to get in on the grift. Just about EVERYONE he has selected is a fraud, or corrupt in other ways. That includes himself, of course. The gop owns this mess, they had better do something FAST, before he destroys the entire world in a fit of pique. Dumb, orange s-o-b.

the legislation passed the House by voice vote and the Senate by unanimous consent.
The legislation had Democratic co-sponsors (Sheldon Whitehouse in the Senate) and Peter Welch in the House.

Even Manchin himself failed to object to it's enactment. It's a sad case of members voting for legislation they didn't bother to read or understand.

60 Minutes story was a good example of the nastiness of politics no matter the party

Both houses passed the bill unanimous consent and no actual vote; then signed into law by President Obama with no public comment or anything else. Its like they all knew it was a shit bill and didn't want to draw any attention to it.
Usually a Congress member, Senator or the President will offer up some comment about how great a big bill is after its passed. This would be considered a big issue bill with all thats going on.

that were affected supported the legislations. President Obama signed it, so the problem was not picked up by his people in HHS and DEA did not see and communicate the problems. Even on 60 minutes, the whistleblower spoke of one of "theirs" going through the revolving door and knowing just how to write it to throw a monkey wrench into them working to move charges up the food chain to the distributors.

It sounds like the bill was written with several real fixes to problems that people were seeking spotlighted and up front and little (!) details like holding innocent the distributors written to sound as much like boilerplate as possible - as if to avoid unintended consequences of people just doing their job facing charges.
