McCain to Trump: 'I've faced far greater challenges than this'
Source: The Hill
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Tuesday shot back at President Trump after Trump warned the Arizona Republican that at some point, he would fight back.
"I've faced far greater challenges than this," McCain said, according to a CNN reporter.
In response to Trump's threat, McCain had this blunt response: "Ive faced far greater challenges than this" https://t.co/nFo24e0dDe

(3,166 posts)You can cement your legacy and make up for foisting Palin onto the world: switch parties or at least become an independent who caucuses with the Democrats. While you're at it, bring Collins with you! Wouldn't a 50-50 Senate be delicious??

As far as challenges in his life are concerned, trump is but a pimple on his ass that needs to be popped.

(2,145 posts)is not backing down when challenged. And getting belligerent when insulted by a challenger. McCain is a bulldog about this - he will not let go of it until whoever challenged him is gone.
Trump just made a huge mistake, because McCain still is revered by the GOP and McCain has eons of experience and connections. McCain is very powerful in DC, in spite of his age. Essentially Trump just challenged the old wing of the GOP - the wing that has all the power. Trump thought he could bluff McCain, but this is going to backfire on Trump in a huge way. McCain knows how to play backroom politics all too well.. It may be the final straw that will end the GOP from covering for Trump, even unto impeachment.
Trump will get his butt kicked and maybe out of office over this one.

As much as most of us dislike McCain's Politics, this is the moment the Senate will turn on Trump,to rally around McCain to protect the institution of the Senate.
Bye bye Donnie!!!!!

(13,421 posts)The image of attacking a war hero with brain cancer because he stood up (yet again) in defense of the country just will not play well with the voters back home. Short of ripping heads off puppies and kittens I can't think of much worse PR for a politician.
Trump is rapidly becoming radioactive for the entire party. I think critical mass is approaching, and every time he ramps up the pressure by going after the old guard--the guys that have both pride and power on the line--he's laying another can of gas on that impeachment fire.
