Source: CNN

Updated 3:32 PM ET, Tue October 17, 2017

Story highlights

American officials have not yet formally announced that the fight is won
"I totally changed rules of engagement," Trump said

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump took credit for the fact that ISIS is in retreat during an interview Tuesday, claiming that ISIS wasn't on the run before because "you didn't have Trump as your president."
.....................................

"I totally changed rules of engagement. I totally changed our military, I totally changed the attitudes of the military and they have done a fantastic job," Trump said on "The Chris Plante Show." "ISIS is now giving up, they are giving up, there are raising their hands, they are walking off. Nobody has ever seen that before."

When Plante asked why that hadn't happened before, Trump took the bait.

"Because you didn't have Trump as your president," he said. "It was a big difference, there was a big, big difference if you look at the military now."..............................

Let's hear a fully detailed account of how you "changed the military, and changed the attitude of the military" - obviously done between tweeting incoherent bullshit and golfing.

ISIS represents an ideology of death, destruction and nihilism.

pulled together by Obama and Kerry was there -- and the same strategy of the local fighters fighting the battle with support from the coalition and the other countries that were not in the coalition but whom we deconflicted with - Iran, Russia and Syria.

Note also, that EVERY time Obama, Ash Carter, Kerry et al spoke of the effort, they noted that winning back the land depriving them of a country with resources simply would mean that they would go from being a terror state to a non state terrorist group - like Al Qaeda. It is no wise that he is claiming that they are "giving up".

As to the idea that we were "losing when he came in, they had taken back about 60% of the area and had regained half of Mosul. When they were leaving office, the guess was that within 3 to 6 months, they would have all of Mosul and within 9 months, they would reclaim Raqqa.

Not to mention, it seems that Tillerson waited weeks before speaking about the Iraqi/Kurd dispute. There is no way the Obama administration would not have had a diplomatic presence. The huge danger there is that if Iraq blows up again -- there is a danger the Sunni part becomes completely unstable -- while the Shia in the government and the Kurds are in dispute. Throughout the Obama years, there was a very significant diplomatic piece, ranging from joining Norway in working on demining the land won back to doing all they could to insure that as a piece of land was won back, local people worked to develop good governance. Here, I hope others in teh coalition set up, because particularly on something like this Tillerson is no John Kerry - not even close.

The only thing Trump gets credit for is being a sleazy carnival barker.

The death toll of innocents rose dramatically because of American bombs. Trump relaxed all the rules. The Kurds on the ground have had the dirty work for years as they have in Iraq. Russia entered the war in Syria in a brutal way. It has become a merciless free-for-all battleground with the general population trapped between all these forces.

I think Trump, as well as being an evil fool, is naive to believe ISIS will ever quit fighting. They'll just change their methods. Another Afghanistan?

strikes fear into the heart of every dedicated terrorist. It's just about the same level of fear the mention of his name has on American citizens. Two Thirds of Americans cringe at the sound of the orange turd blossom's name, and for good reason. He's morally bankrupt (bankruptcy is something with which Trump is very familiar), he's a sociopath incapable of empathy for others, he'll take the credit for other's hard work, and he deflects blame on everyone around him, because it's impossible for him to be wrong.

Hell yeah! I can see why Trump made them head for the hills. He's a BAD DUDE!
