President Trump is going after Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) and claiming she lied about his call to the grieving widow of one of the Green Berets who was recently killed in Niger.
Link to tweet
After coming under fire for not addressing the ISIS ambush earlier this month, Trump reached out to the pregnant widow of Sgt. La David Johnson last night in order to express his sympathies for her loss. Wilson says she was with Myeshia Johnson during the call, and that the president said on a speaker phone he knew what he signed up for but when it happens it hurts anyway.
This allegation has already created new questions about the presidents sensitivity, though Trump claims he has proof that Wilsons words are bogus.

UPDATE:
Dem lawmaker fires back at Trump: 'This man is a sick man'
BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 10/18/17 07:51 AM EDT
Rep. Frederica Wilson blasted President Trump on Wednesday, calling him a "sick man" after he accused the Florida Democrat of fabricating her claim that he made an insensitive remark to the wife of a fallen soldier.
"This man is a sick man. He's cold hearted, and he feels no pity or sympathy for anyone," Wilson told CNN's Alisyn Camerota on "New Day."
"This is a grieving widow. A grieving widow, who is 6 months pregnant," she continued.
"When she actually hung up the phone, she looked at me and said 'he didn't even know his name.' Now that's the worst part, " Wilson said.

(7,527 posts)You never hear about the "Democratic Party" anymore, because they love to emphasize the RAT out of the word "Democrat".
I believe this was a Rove ploy that nobody ever thinks about anymore.
I also remember how when I was young, the US was always described as a "democracy". Now we're apparently a "republic". I think that's technically correct terminology since we have the (goddam fucking) Electoral College and we don't directly elect a leader, but it always jars me when I hear it.

(45,427 posts)Both words work.
I often hear people argue that the United States is a republic, not a democracy. But thats a false dichotomy. A common definition of republic is, to quote the American Heritage Dictionary, A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them we are that. A common definition of democracy is, Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives we are that, too.

My relatives started repeating the "republic not democracy" bullshit after Jerry Falwell started opening every interview with the phrase.
FakeNoose
(32,633 posts)Actually we're both and neither. We're more like a congomeration of both systems.
In a democracy everyone votes for everything, like a town hall meeting of a small town. No mayor or leader makes a decision, it's made by everyone together, after debate and hearing all sides. Well this works for a small group (like in the beginning of our country) but it became unwieldy with urban growth and people moving out to the wilderness.
So the founding fathers realized this and incorporated aspects of a republic, where elected representatives - executives, legislative officials, and judicial representitves - were voted on and delegated to carry on the business of the people. In some states the judges are elected but others have changed to appointment by the governor to take the politics out of the judicial system. (Tell me a governor's appointment isn't also political.)
For the most part we really aren't a democracy any more, especially now that the Republican Party has taken over. But they cheated to get where they are now, in the catbird seat. The GOP can only win when they cheat, and that's why they're always looking for ways to game the system.

Wilson said there were multiple people in the car who heard Trump: aunt, an uncle, master sergeant, her aide. Says Trump is "lying"
If he releases a doctored audio tape .... a lot of people are going to lose it.

(42,694 posts)This isn't going to be a popular view here and I want to emphasize that I don't have any reason to doubt Wilson's version of the call.
However, the call was between trump and the widow and her family. Yes it was on speaker. Yes it could be heard by others. But unless the widow herself was offended by the words and consented to Wilson going public, it was not Wilson's place to comment. Maybe that's what happened, although you would think Wilson's comments would have reflected that.
Now, the widow is stuck in the middle of a controversy not of her own making. If she backs up Wilson, great. But maybe she heard the words differently or took them differently. Maybe she says that she appreciated the call. Then what?
I have had the experience of people coming up to me after the death of each of my parents and saying things that were inappropriate. I've had people overhear those remarks or have repeated them to others. But whether I took offense or chose to view it in a different light was my choice and I would have been royally pissed if anyone I shared the information with talked about it to anyone else.
Again, I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of Wilson's description of the call. I just don't think it was her place to be outraged on behalf of the widow unless the widow made it clear she was upset and while she didn't want to comment about it herself, she was okay with Wilson conveying her reaction for her.
Demit
(11,238 posts)She heard for herself what Trump said b/c the call was on speaker. So she has a right to her own reaction. Plus, the widow was indeed clearly upset. She couldn't believe Trump didn't even remember her husband's name.

(42,694 posts)UPDATE: It is being reported that the mother of Sgt. Johnson has confirmed Wilson's report of the call and indicated that she (the mother) felt the president was disrespectful. That's good enough for me. Now we can see if the Trumpstans are prepared to go after a Gold Star mother (again).

(53,764 posts)Come on, who wouldn't put the president on speaker for everyone to hear.
And did you not get the part where Mrs. Johnson said trump didn't even remember Sgt. Johnson's name?
Rep. Wilson is Mrs. Johnson's representative so IMO she was right in criticizing trump's bumbling, clumsy, soulless, insensitivity.
The imposter in the WH needs to be exposed for what he is as if we didn't have enough evidence already.
brush
(53,764 posts)nowadays. Does he actually think Sgt Johnson's widow would be in the car by herself on the way to meet her husband's casket and he could therefore lie his way out of it?
It's just sickening what we go through every damn day with this soulless imposter in the White House.
Brace yourself, who knows what's coming next.

(10,252 posts)Everytime Trump breaks the norms of personal behavior, which seems to be constantly, he just can't leave it alone. When he gets called on the carpet and read the riot act, he has to say something even more stupid in defense of his ego. I am so past the point of hating this man. He just never knows how to say the right thing in the right place at the right time. That's called being out of syntony, or harmony, with his environment. He is one of the most severe cases of out of syntony that I've ever seen. He's pathetic. Desparately needing approval, yet behavior that is constantly disapproved. He must secretly suffer a lot, but pretends to be happy and successful. Everyone can see his distorted and clueless ego, but him. I just have to shake my head in wonderment.

(14,490 posts)Wikipedia's page on psychopathy. Reading it is almost like reading a mental biography on him. I'm convinced we've elected a very sick man to lead our country and need to push for his removal by all reasonable means.
In addition to the characteristics of a psychopath, he also appears to be plagued by other disorders, described by this excerpt from the Wiki:
(snip)
Psychopathy, narcissism and Machiavellianism, three personality traits that are together referred to as the dark triad, share certain characteristics, such as a callous-manipulative interpersonal style.
-----------
I believe what you're calling lack of syntony or harmony the field of psychology might call anti-social behavior. He seems to exist in a bubble occupied only by himself.
