Romney Faces Pressure From Right to Put Ryan on Ticket
Source: The New York Times
Conservatives are increasing the pressure on Mitt Romney again.
That Mr. Romney has not yet named his vice-presidential nominee has created an opening for social and economic conservatives to pressure him publicly, and they have taken the opportunity to make an aggressive case for Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin.
In rallying around Mr. Ryan, a champion of cutting government spending and reining in the costs of programs like Medicare and Medicaid, conservatives are calling for Mr. Romney to select someone who can push their fiscal agenda, but they also are setting the stage for a possible letdown on the right if Mr. Romney chooses someone else in his race against President Obama. A strongly worded Wall Street Journal editorial on Thursday urged Mr. Romney to pick Mr. Ryan, saying he "best exemplifies the nature and stakes of this election."
The editorial follows a fresh wave of public pressure from other conservative outlets for Mr. Romney to erase doubts about his commitment to conservative causes -an issue that has dogged Mr. Romney since his days campaigning as a liberal Republican for the Senate in Massachusetts.

(14,563 posts)he looks the part, same at Romney.
THAT is how these clowns think.
He is an intellectual lightweight who simply looks good spewing their nonsense.
I saw an interview with him where whoever was doing the interview said, "We know your focus on cutting taxes, explain what you would do economically outside of cutting taxes."
Ryan babbled for 15 seconds before spending the rest of 2 minutes talking about ... tax cuts ..."
He would not be Palin bad by any means, and not even Romney bad. But, he won't make any meaningful contribution - no foreign policy chops, nothing other than advancing a disaster of an economic plan that the "liberal" media has breathlessly characterized as "serious."

(10,857 posts)He could write his pick down on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope, and the Convention can simply ratify the contents of the envelope.
Then, he can lie to each of the demographic groups he wishes to lie over to his side, and tell them that their pick is really his pick, but he has to keep the pick secret because... well, just because.
He can tell Libertarians that his pick is Ron Paul.
He can tell the Greens that his pick is Ralph Nader.
He can tell the Republicans that his pick is the reanimated corpse of Ronald Reagan.
He can tell Democrats that his pick is Barack Obama.
Wow, this lying shit is really powerful, man! I should do it all the time!

I'd better call my partners in Nigeria about this.

I can't control my dual nature sufficiently to carry two different realities in my head at the same time. At least that's what I think. But I'm not sure that I know that so I try to just K.I.S.S. So I've always been as honest as I know how to be. It's probably a mental defect.
Truly, Romney is a superior being and able to handle more than one dimension at the same time.
I'm hoping that aliens from outer space will find his hoard of money and take him and it away from Earth and leave us in peace. We could throw him a great going away party. I think he is supposed to get to rule his own planet if he's rich enough. Or some such twaddle. Really, is that too much to ask of the rulers of Kolob or whatever?
And I'd stay away from investing in those things you listed, or giving your personal information to those princes in Nigeria. I suspect your money has been funneled into Mitt's offshore (or dare we say, off planet?) bank accounts. My condolences.

Sure, it gave ME a headache, but I think people who vote (R) read something like that and take away exactly what they want to hear. They've had >30 years of GOP conditioning.
It's the Twilight Zone.

I think we will see the last of him sooner than later. Well, in November, at latest.
Oh, and for doing that painful research for us on Mittbot. I can't watch any of them anymore!

(11,064 posts)There's nothing to indicate that Paul Ryan has defended Rmoney's refusal to be forthcoming with his tax returns, but Ann How-to-Talk-to-a-Liberal Coulter has.
If we openly express our dislike of her, will Rmoney be pressured to select her?

(602 posts)Just wild unsubstantiated speculation here, of course. Romney is on the ropes, he can barely see through his bleeding purplish swollen eyes, he's missing a couple of teeth and Obama's floating like a butterfly, closing in for another barrage of uppercuts. Republicans see that, don't they? Maybe this sudden unified chorus of support for Ryan is just an opening move in something we've never witnessed before. Coincidentally, a Republican "group" in Tampa Florida is going public, questioning whether delegates should by conscience vote for Romney. Maybe no connection. But whatever is going on, it sure is interesting!

(13,297 posts)The Far Right extremists are crazy, and they think that God is telling them what to do. I would be scared if I were Romney nominating someone who they would prefer over me. They just might make it happen, however they felt it would work best.

(7,402 posts)Just think, if Tea Party Republicans would have nominated anyone except Sharron Angle to run against Harry Reid in 2010 then Reid would be a former Senator who nobody would listen too. As it is, Reid has Romney in a hammer lock and won't let go. Under the circumstances Ryan may not want the VP slot. Who knows, should Reid release his source on the eve of the Republican convention Ryan may want to go for the top spot. I can see the Wall Street Journal making that call under those circumstances.

(19,458 posts)In fact, they may have demanded it. YOu know damn well when people like them and Adelman are contributing hundreds of millions of dollars to Romney, then they are going to be telling him who to pick.
I hope that they pick that weasel. His budget reads like a Dickens' novel.

(8,636 posts)It's not like the main$tream media has done their job explaining what Ryan is all about; they've just labeled him as a 'statesman' with a 'serious plan' to address the deficit. They omit little things like: Ryan will take away most of your Social Security and Medicare, while lowering taxes on the rich.

(9,259 posts)The mastermind behind the plan to destroy Medicare...the Dems will remind the public at every opportunity just exactly what he plans to do. Looks like we've finally grown a spine in this campaign and Ryan on the ticket would be awesome. The planned destruction of the safety net has a face and a name. Go for it, GOP!

(18,626 posts)If Romney won the presidency and then died, Paul Ryan would be president of the United States of America.
I know, far fetched, but whoever thought the John Birch society would become one of the major forces in American politics? That was far fetched too until a few years ago. (The tea people are essentially John Birchers in more fashionable clothing.)
I don't put anything as being impossible anymore.

(20,226 posts)prefer a 40% chance of Romney winning the Presidency to a 10% chance of Gingrich being elected. Thus saying that it is not necessarily a good idea to wish for the Republicans to nominate a real crazy assuming that would spell certain defeat. Although Ryan would likely weaken the ticket - it would be just too risky if we consider the worse case - but still not completely implausible - scenario.
