Broomfield Cub Scout kicked out after asking Republican state senator hard questions

Source: Denver7 News

A Broomfield 5th grader was kicked out of the Cub Scouts, reportedly for simply asking a politician a few tough questions.

The boy was just three months shy of becoming a boy scout when he faced removal from his den last week. His Cub Scout den in Broomfield hosted Republican state senator Vicki Marble for a question and answer discussion on Monday, Oct. 9.

Students asked about gun control, the proposed border wall and Marble's infamous and racially charged remarks from 2013 on foods of the south and disease in African Americans.

But the questions apparently went too far.

Obviously he comes from a household that talks about the news and and his parents deal with him as a thinking human being. He most probably reflects the values of his parents. That being said, as a parent of two, I always express my views to my kids and give them facts to back it up. I also encourage them to question everything. Social evolution. It’s their job.

Watching the video, it’s painfully obvious who knows and understands the facts around what is actually happening with guns in our society. I proud to say that both of my kids could have done that in fifth grade.

When the elected official started in on the “what about Chicago” talking points rather than to address the facts that were the basis for the question, I wanted to put on a bunny suit and scream.

Yes, the painful reality of our gun laws and the politicians who make them is that a well informed 5th grader can tear them apart. And then gets kicked out for speaking truth to power.

The kid read a 2 minute plus question. His mother is described as politically active on social media. This was a Cub Scouts event that was high jacked. It was used to further mom's agenda. The politician - who I do not know or endorse - was ambushed. If I were a parent of another Cub I would be upset. The Den leader was used. I do not blame the leader for taking action. Hopefully the leader attempted to discuss the matter with the mom before removing the kid from the den.

We raised our children to be aware of social events and political issues. They were encouraged to think and question. They were also taught manners and appropriate behavior. We never used our children.

Sounds like asshole scout leadership at the pack level. They have zero power. We ditched 2 packs before we found a good one for my son.

My son was in a good pack. He went on to become an Eagle Scout. That has opened doors for him.

He has worked to get inclusion for LGBT scouts. Lately, he has not done as much. But whenever a scout troop calls on him for help, he volunteers his time and is supportive.

It is also a good idea to see who is sponsoring a pack. If it is some conservative group, there may be issues.

I, also, got kicked out of Cub Scouts back in 1953 for the same reason I got kicked out of Sunday School: Asking simple questions in the face of widely accepted absurdity.

He asks questions. His cub scout troop won't have the opportunity to teach him not to.

America wins.

He can't bear that his attempt to suck up to a Republican, and to make Republicans look good to impressionable children, was derailed by a 5th grader. So he can't stand having the 5th grader who outsmarted him in the group.
