Niger grants uranium permits to Russian Gazprombank

Source: reuters

NIAMEY (Reuters) - Niger’s ruling military junta has awarded Russia’s Gazprombank rights to explore and produce uranium at two sites, according to a statement read over state TV late on Thursday.

“The company Gazprombank GTB NGS of the Gazprom group has been awarded mining conventions for research and mining of uranium on the perimeters of Toulouk 2 and Toulouk 4,” according to a government statement, refering to mining blocks in the northern Agadez region.

Niger is a leading uranium exporter, and the top supplier of the nuclear fuel to France’s power industry.

Gazprombank, one of Russia’s largest lenders and a former banking arm of state-owned energy giant Gazprom, holds a minority stake in Russian nuclear firm Atomstroyexport - which is helping build Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant.

I don't mean patrolling their compounds or personal bodyguards...

But we could be in Niger to root out Islamic militants PRIMARILY because of interest in having a secure Niger for uranium.

Perhaps THAT was the subject of the private chat that Trump and Putin had at the G8 summit in Germany. Putin said "well, if you can't lift the sanctions like we asked you to, perhaps central command could be more aggressive in Niger and remove ISIS/Al Queda from the countryside for us?"

to celebrate the glorious contract VICTORY of their russian comrades.

Meanwhile, tut tut, the republican "commander" too damn busy golfing to acknowledge or honor four dead US Green Berets for ten freaking days.

Disgusting. republicans should hang their heads in collective shame for NigerGhazi.

Russian firms have expertise in mining for Uranium in Russia so they can make a profit mining in Niger. This isn’t a significant event.
