McConnell, McCain praise Flake after blistering anti-Trump retirement speech
Source: MSN/The Hill
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) praised Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on the floor of the Senate Tuesday after Flake announced in a blistering speech that he would not seek reelection because of his frustration and alarm over President Trump's behavior.
"On behalf of myself and I think many of my colleagues, we've just witnessed a speech from a very fine man, a man who clearly brings high principles to the office every day and does what he believes is in the interest of Arizona and the country," McConnell said.
The majority leader said he was grateful Flake would be around through 2018 because Republicans in the Senate "have big things to try to accomplish."
Flake's stunning speech on the Senate floor came just moments after the Senate Republican Conference left a luncheon on Capitol Hill that Trump attended as part of an effort to get everyone on the same page about tax reform.

The sad thing is that this is probably more of a reflection that most Congressional Republicans have embraced the new overtly racist and proudly ignorant GOP where Donald Trump and Roy Moore represent what passes for the Republican mainstream.

(10,094 posts)McConnell does not have any principles, all they care about is tax cuts for the ruling class, gutting social programs and paying off his corporate masters through legislation. After all the rules manipulation he and they did during President Obama's term, that takes some cajones.

(562 posts)He's offering praise to keep him from straying, because Flake almost sounded like he's willing to vote democratic.
He's done immeasurable damage to the senate, any hope of bipartisanship, democracy, and helped lead the way to acceptance of Trump. A complete scumbag.
But otherwise he's terrific.

Before his campaign figured out I was the enemy, they used to send me election literature. It was the most vile, untruthful crap I've ever seen.
