Senate Democrat: My job is not to fight the president

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 10/29/17 01:23 PM EDT

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said during an interview on Sunday that while she may not always agree with President Trump, it’s not her job to fight him.

“There are specific policy things we agree on, and I am anxious to work with him on those things,” McCaskill told Chuck Todd on “Meet The Press.”

“We may not agree always on style, and sometimes we don’t agree on substance, but my job’s not to fight him, my job is to fight for Missourians,” she continued.

“So I get up every day, my feet hit the ground trying to figure out how I can get stuff done for them, not how I can criticize the president.”
McCaskill pointed to issues such as infrastructure and affordable prescription drugs as issues with which she’s found common ground with Trump.

She's a Democrat in a Red State and she wants to keep her job. Much like Joe Manchin in West Virginia.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

She would have been better off saying nothing. This isn't about politics, Trump is a clear danger to democracy and the world overall. This is where "enemies, foreign and domestic" comes into play. Also, there isn't going to be any infrastructure or reasonable drug prices under this president. That is an illusion and I'm quite sure she realizes that.

What she said is so vague---for the low information voter---it could be about denying climate change or God knows what.

The #1 job of our democratic representatives is to remove trump from office, stop his agenda and overturn the illegitimate election of 2016.
Democratic Senators and Representatives are the first line of defense in the Resistance, once we regain the majorities in Congress we can remove trump, remove his judges and overturn laws and executive orders imposed during his time.
We must hold all our Representatives to this task, if we're successful we should be able to see tRump and his henchmen jailed and Hillary installed to her rightful position as President of the United States.

She is one of the main targets of very well funded Republican Party. Her opponent will have megabucks behind them from the plutocracy and they already have complete control of Missouri. Of course she not as far left as me (and few are), but she's an honorable person and is light years better than any Republican. Being too liberal will get you out of office in a hurry and getting into a pissing match with a skunk won't do any good. There is an old saying in Missouri:Never wrestle with a pig. You get dirty and they love it.

And if you haven't been to Missouri, trust me, it might as well be part of Kansas, it's so red. But there are Republicans and Independents that do like and respect McCaskill. She's trying to keep that 20% in her coalition in order to win (which I think she will).

Her actions and votes show her to be a solid Democrat.

Court is hanging by a thread.

Having a majority in the Senate is critical to the Supreme Court.

I remember in 2016 being ridiculed when I said if for no other reason, the Supreme Court should be reason enough to vote for the Democratic nominee. That was for the Presidency.

I now repeat the same thing for every Democratic race for the Senate in 2018.

optimistic at all that we will retake the Senate in 2018. Too many Democratic seats are up for reelection, and far less republican seats.

I hope I am wrong

Senators take an oath to uphold the Constitution, much like the President does. Claire McCaskill you need to honor your oath, and be a patriot. It might actually come down to that. If it means you don't get re-elected, then so what? You swore to uphold the Constitution, and your successor will do the same.

This is EXACTLY what I’ve warned about for months.
He is no different than any republican. The last few months should have made that crystal clear.
She is willing to work with a racist, xenophobic, unhinged fascist rapist.
Each one of us has to decide if we are too.

I’m not.

NEVER FORGET:
Trump is a narcissistic, racist, bigoted and xenophobic fascist. We must all be united in our fight against his agenda because we will all be a victim of it.
