Paul Manafort and Rick Gates appeared in federal court on Monday and entered not guilty pleas.

The former Trump campaign officials have been indicted on 12 counts related to hiding foreign payments, including a charge of “conspiracy against the United States.” Manafort and Gate plead not guilty to all charges.

Bond for Manafort was set at $10 million, and bond for Gates was set at $5 million.

The special counsel team said that two men were a flight risk. The parties agreed to home detention. Both men must surrender their passports.

With the way Russian "diplomats" were dropping like flies, I'd be pretty nervous. Waiting for Manafort to fall out a window while brushing his teeth.

killed in Moscow across street from Lubyanka Building, formerly the KGB prison. It happened just at the moment that a street cleaning truck obscured him from the camera on the building. I think Putin must have watched Once Upon a Time In America only in the movie you hear a garbage truck.

for these so called white collar crimes. And how much of the bail do they need to pay. For common everyday "blue collar" folks it would be 10% of the bail amount.

(and yes, I deplore classism)

1) FUCK THE JUSTICE SYSTEM! I steal a goddamn pack of gum I’m going to jail. Rich Old White Guy steals and hides millions of dollars and he gets to go home to his mansion and the very real possibility he could sneak away to Russia or any of a dozen small island nations and live in the lap of luxury and beyond the reach of said legal system.

2) that said, nothing would make me happier to see him run as nothing admits guilt like trying to flee to a non-extradition country to avoid court.

Just thinking 'out loud' here...

If they are a flight risk, and I don't doubt that they are - why weren't they a flight risk between Friday when the sealed indictments were announced and today when they reported to the FBI?

I know the sealed indictments didn't name the defendant, but everyone was guessing and many of us, in fact probably MOST of us, knew that Manafort was a very likely candidate.

Do you think they were under FBI surveillance over the weekend? Or was some sort of deal struck that gave Mueller comfort that Manafort and/or Gates would not try to run?

In real life the feds notify white collar suspects that an indictment is coming. They negotiate with the person and/or their lawyer on when/where they will surrender. Normally it is not a problem and it wasn't in this case.

Trump will pardon everybody other than those he cant gain from.

Without a moment of hesitation, none. He has no morals, he is a sociopath.

Any attempt to flee would have resulted in an arrest. It’s possible he could get away but odds are reduced.
