Romney To Obama: Let’s Agree Not To Discuss My Business Record
Source: ThinkProgress
Mitt Romney who has placed his business record at the centerpiece of his presidential campaign is now asking President Obama to stop discussing his tenure with Bain Capital.
During an interview with NBCs Chuck Todd, the former Massachusetts governor asked Obama to avoid discussing business or family or taxes or things of that nature:
Our campaign would be helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon business or family or taxes or things of that nature. [...]
We only talk about issues. And we can talk about the differences between our positions and our opponents position. Romney said of his own campaign: Our ads havent gone after the president personally. We havent dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time around. We havent gone after the personal things.

(11 posts)But, we can talk about the so-called failing of "Your" policies during your 4 years as President, which is what Mitt mentioned in the interview... while the rest of us know full well that it was the Republican "Do Nothing" Congress that has been stalling this nation since 2008 and has led us into the worst Recession since the Great Depression!

(11 posts)Okay. Your "Business Experience" is the WHOLE reason for why you are running for President, Mitt! You yourself said it I believe that your "Business Experience" is what makes you "Qualified" for the Presidency. Thus, President Obama should continue to tell the TRUTH about your "Business Experience" since that is your center piece and foundation of your whole campaign against him!

(45,984 posts)Of course, I expect Romney to talk about Obama's record in a serious and critical way. By all means, that is his duty as the opposition candidate. That's why we have elections.
In fact, I hope Romney stops fabricating shit about Obama's record and starts talking about it as should ASAP. He'd do us all a favor.
Otherwise, his record as a businessman is fair game, just as is Obama's record as presidient.

Also, does this mean there will be no more talk of birth certificates and community activist and Kenyan-born Muslim and Chicago politics and all the other non-issues? No, we have heard all the crazy shit about Obama for four years, so it can't do much damage at this point. On the other hand, we haven't heard enough about Romney yet.

(1,553 posts)Then what is it that qualifies you to be President over 300 million other people? I'm not sure after 45 years of viewing and living the results of politics, I can understand this platform, or position.
Let us see; my past business qualifies me to be President, but we can not discuss this. My family knows I am the best candidate for this job, but we should not discuss my past family history. I have the best tax plan based on my business experience, and personal history, of negotiating within the limits of a weasel, combating a fair assessment of paying my way, ...
We can speak of anything else, if it does not infringe upon my lack of qualifications to fulfill the Presidency of the United States, or otherwise display my hypocrisy in my campaign rhetoric.

(50,556 posts)How about we discuss Romney's God-awful record as governor and his reliance on the broken-record economics the Republican Party loves? If voodoo economics, which Bush II used, actually worked this country should have so many jobs available everyone can have two or three, one they do to earn a living and a second one they do just because it's fun. (Something like working in a used-record shop or a hot-rod parts manufacturer.)

Willard, you seem to be suffering from some very strange delusions. There's no restrictions on choke holds, kidney and rabbit punches, crotch kicks, eye gouging or discussion of your tax returns that you so want to hide from us but you'll have no choice but to reveal.
When you say things like "the Democrats will simply pour through my returns until they find something to seize upon" you're admitting there's something there. The Democratic Party is NOT the IRS. We do not have to follow code. We can do anything we want, and we will. There are loopholes in the IRS code that unfairly give advantages to rich people, and Obama's made this a center point in his argument that we need to make America more fair for the middle class.
Welcome to Chicago, mittens. You foolishly stepped into this ring believing there were rules. The moment you decided to hinge your run on an out-of-context gaffe, you gave up all rights to a fair fight. Deal with it, you wimp.
