Rentech's Mercer to Resign as Co-CEO of Hedge Fund

Source: Bloomberg

Renaissance Technologies’ Robert Mercer plans to step down as co-chief executive officer effective Jan. 1, according to a letter he sent to investors in the firm’s funds.

Peter Brown, 62, will continue as CEO, the letter said. Mercer, 71, will also leave the board but remain at the company as a member of the technical staff focusing on research work. Mercer and Brown took the co-CEO posts in 2010 after founder James Simons retired.

In recent months, Mercer’s personal political projects dragged him and his firm into the national spotlight. Mercer and his daughter, Rebekah, are prominent Republican donors and patrons of Stephen Bannon, the chairman of Breitbart News and a driving force behind the populist, nationalist wing of the Republican party that carried Donald Trump to the White House. In a Nov. 2 letter to colleagues at the hedge fund, Mercer said "for personal reasons" he has decided to sell his stake in Breitbart News to his daughters.

Mercer’s politics have put him at odds with those of other top figures at Renaissance. Simons, who remains chairman of the Renaissance board, was one of Hillary Clinton’s top financial backers during last year’s election.
Brown and Mercer were both hired by Renaissance in 1993 from the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, where they were language technology experts. The firm has been a pioneer in the growing industry of computer-driven investing.

Just went past my screen on the Bloomberg terminal.

He will stay on as as a member of the technical staff doing research.

I suspect Jim Simons (a Hillary supporter) was getting fed up with his bullshit. Peter Brown (a Hillary supporter). Will be the sole CEO.

It is a mistake if you think that a response automatically means a person is upset, especially if it was delivered in a completely neutral manner the way post 10 was (as have been my other responses).

Billionaire Republican financier Robert Mercer Thursday is cutting all ties with conservative firebrand Milo Yiannopoulos and selling his shares in Breitbart News, which he has funded for years

......has long backed Breitbart and Yiannopoulos, said he hoped Yiannopoulos’ abrasive style and views outside the political mainstream would help people think for themselves. However, as Yiannopoulos moved closer to neo-Nazi and other racist groups, he now regrets supporting him.

They are politically new to the game and were able to make the asshole president. Bekah was the implementer for daddy's evil plans. By hook or by crook, here we are. Note that Koch brothers and all the billionaires couldn't accomplish what they did after many more years and billions in political donations.

Last year, someone made fun of shithead's campaign using Cambridge analytica as a joke compared to the Clinton data juggernaut. I warned them in that post to be very careful if it is backed by Mercer who is pretty much the best data scientist in the world. They laughed it off...and here we are.

Milo's been disgusting for years. You funded him when he was outing and doxxing trans youth at the schools you paid for him to speak at. You paid for him to be a horrible white nationalist. You paid for him to organize social media attacks on WOC actors like Leslie Jones just for being in Ghostbusters. You paid for him to give a platform and legitimacy for GamerGate to keep on doxxing and threatening women that disagreed with them on social media. You paid for him to be a pet gay for the far right to trot out every time they needed to be able to say, "No, see? We've got gay friends, too!!"

Here's a list of how disgusting Milo was before you managed to cut ties with him you enormous hypocrite, Mercer:
https://www.bitchmedia.org/article/bad-things-milo-yiannopoulos-has-done-case-his-new-publisher-cares-just-kidding-they-totally

And you didn't stop funding him because you don't like his form of expression, his ties to white nationalist groups, his islamophobia, his own personal white supremacy, or anything like that, you stopped funding him once it became obvious he was a pedophile apologist, just conveniently reinforcing the right wing's most disgusting and incorrect stereotype about gay men. You get no cookie, and you get no pat on the head. You funded Milo to do irreparable damage to the national political discourse, then kicked him to the curb when he finally was SO disgusting you couldn't afford to have ties with him any more. Get bent.
