Final poll predicts Australia's marriage equality vote will be a huge win

Source: LGBTQNation

Australians are about to find out the results of the nationwide, non-binding postal survey on marriage equality, and the final poll shows it is likely to be a big win for the Yes campaign.

According to The Guardian Essential Report poll, a whopping 86 percent of those asked have voted. Of those, 64 percent reported voting in favor of marriage equality, 31 percent said they voted No, and 5 percent preferred not to answer.

The vast majority of those who vote Green voted Yes, at 92 percent, as did those who vote Labor, at 79 percent. A slight majority of those who vote Liberal are in favor as well, according to the poll, at 54 percent. While all of this is encouraging news, it does not necessarily mean there will be a change to the law that will see gay couples being allowed to get married.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has promised consideration of a bill to legalize same-sex marriage if the postal survey comes back with a majority Yes vote, but there is opposition with his Liberal party.

4. Not necessarily. Some people just don't like to answer because they believe in a secret ballot.

They don't realize that they are going to be answering a question about how they voted until they have already agreed to do the poll.

My guess is that they break down along the same lines as the rest of those polled.

It sounds like it will pass by a 2 to 1 margin.

Voting in elections is compulsory in Australia. If you don't vote, you get a "please explain" letter and you are told there may be a fine coming your way. At least, that was what happened to me some years ago.

So, to go down the road of a voluntary, postal based vote is just bizarre. It should have been voted on in Parliament.

Note: I'm an Aussie, but live in The Netherlands, so no longer vote. Had I been able to, I would have strongly voted FOR SSM.

5. I wish we had their Voting system and even their POLLS like this one seem fair and hard to rig.

yup, I'm jealous of other first world countries ease of voting-

while the USA sits here and festers with their gerrymandered, hacked up voting system. Republicans trying their best to make it HARDER & HARDER for people to have their right to vote.
