Michigan panel OKs concealed guns in schools

Source: WBAY, ABC affiliate in Green Bay, WI

A Michigan legislative committee has voted to let people with extra training carry guns inside churches, schools and other places now off limits.

The bills were approved Tuesday, two days after a gunman killed 26 people at a Texas church. The full Senate plans to vote as early as Wednesday. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed legislation in 2012 that would have allowed concealed pistol license holders with additional training to carry in gun-free zones.

Proponents say the zones are a "target-rich environment" for mass shooters. Critics say authorizing guns in the areas would make those places less safe.

won't pass any laws to protect us? We are going to have to take matters into our own hands
or get killed. What else can we do? I am sick of it myself, every time you go out in public you have to
look for an escape route in case a shooter opens up. I am going to start carrying a weapon myself since I can't
rely on our laws.

Churches, like any other business in Texas, must post appropriate 30.06/30.07 signs to ban guns from their premises. If they don't, guns are NOT banned. I do not know if this particular church had the appropriate signage or not.

security guard can play fantasy games in school or church with a real gun and kill as many innocent bystanders as possible during the allotted "active shooter" playing time.

Guns are good to go. There is a yearly gun rights rally on Capitol grounds, most open carry assault rifles and pistols in and around the building.

Ironically, no protest signs allowed inside.

Also, as current Michigan law stands, people with CPL's can legally open carry inside schools and the other Gun free zones.

If a 7 year old has had the "extra" training does that mean they get to take their gun to school? Do all of the hormone pumped teenagers get to take guns to school now? Talk about giving bullies a whole hell of a lot more power. Then there is the bullied who are legally able to bring a gun to blow away anyone who happens to give them the wrong look that day. Nothing like an angry child grabbing the gun off of teacher and blowing classmates and teacher away.

Before the "extra training" earned, the gun owner must first have a concealed carry permit (by whatever name that state uses) having passed all the background checks and training requirements for it.

away from them? Just because it is so called concealed does not mean someone can get to it. As I said, I just see the possibility of some angry child of any age getting hold of it.

That said, if the gun is properly concealed, you would normally be in hand-to-hand combat already for someone else to grab it.

surrounding you bouncing all over it is a possibility for them to get it. When you have a whole bunch of cute children around you doing that the last thing on your mind is combat and it also could not have anything to do with an angry child but just curiosity.

If there is no holster suitable for your situation, you may need to rethink the carrying of a gun in that situation.
This is a very common problem for women given the fashion choices (or lack there of).

Of course, this was prior to WWII.
