LINCOLN — State Sen. Adam Morfeld of Lincoln wants Nebraska voters to decide whether the state should expand Medicaid to more low-income people.

He said Wednesday he plans to propose a ballot measure during the next legislative session, which starts Jan. 3.

“It’s the right thing to do,” Morfeld said. “The Legislature and the governor have consistently failed Nebraskans when it comes to providing affordable health care.”

His announcement came the morning after Maine voters approved a Medicaid expansion measure. Nearly 59 percent of voters chose expansion, according to unofficial totals.
