Woman says Roy Moore initiated sexual encounter when she was 14, he was 32

Source: Washington Post

Leigh Corfman says she was 14 years old when an older man approached her outside a courtroom in Etowah County, Ala. She was sitting on a wooden bench with her mother, they both recall, when the man introduced himself as Roy Moore.

It was early 1979 and Moore — now the Republican nominee in Alabama for a U.S. Senate seat — was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney. He struck up a conversation, Corfman and her mother say, and offered to watch the girl while her mother went inside for a child custody hearing.

“He said, ‘Oh, you don’t want her to go in there and hear all that. I’ll stay out here with her,’ ” says Corfman’s mother, Nancy Wells, 71. “I thought, how nice for him to want to take care of my little girl.”

Alone with Corfman, Moore chatted with her and asked for her phone number, she says. Days later, she says, he picked her up around the corner from her house in Gadsden, drove her about 30 minutes to his home in the woods, told her how pretty she was and kissed her. On a second visit, she says, he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear.

About this very thing. Connected it to the mass shootings and violent crime in general that are VASTLY by 'n' large committed by white males.

Said it's a serious issue and that we should start focusing more on our boys when they're still little boys, to guide them toward a better way of being, believing, and behaving. He pointed out that there is an effort to do so now, in many schools, but said we need to start that much earlier than how it is, currently.

"He picked her up around the corner from her house" like a well-practiced predator. These guys know exactly how to do it. Look for someone vulnerable, pounce at just the right moment, enjoy the power. Then.... do it again and again and again.

Her skirt was probably too short. She asked for it. She didn't say no. If it really happened, why didn't she report it right away? She's lying because Roy Moore would never do anything like that.

Sexual abuse/molestation changes you....forever.

To republicans.

Not to republicans.

As long as they can spew hate and bile and vilify Democrats, especially Clinton, they could not care less.

In red state Alabama it is a non-issue, more likely than not, it will likely help him get elected.

degenerate "republican family values" are completely unlike the American values of honesty, integrity, honor, respect for others, accepting responsibility for one's actions, taking a protective stance on behalf of women and children when necessary, and so forth. So the republican voters won't give a fig or a fart about this lechery. In their eyes, this sort of lowlife, sexual predator crap just part of being a good, old boy republican a-hole.

I read it from start to finish, and it's clear that the WaPo researched the heck out Olof this. They verified the date of the court appearance, confirmed the story with people she spoke to at the time, and found other women with the same story.

Moore's people can cry "fake news" all they want, but it won't make the story go away. Whether it has an impact on Alabama voters is another story altogether.

Which falls well within the parameters of...

"...a person is coerced or physically forced to engage against their will, or non-consensual sexual touching of a person. Sexual assault is a form of sexual violence, and it includes rape (such as forced vaginal, anal or oral penetration or drug facilitated sexual assault), groping, child sexual abuse, or the torture of the person in a sexual manner."

This is very pessimistic of me, but, it won't matter. His supporters will say it's a smear of a good, Christian man like Roy. They will say that in the 70s it was a different time and Roy just was looking for a young woman to be a good mother and wife. They will say that it doesn't matter as long as he gets in there and saves all of Jesus' little unborn babies. They will shrug their shoulders and say, "They're all bad."

Having lived here for 45 years, I can honestly say that Alabama is an intellectual and moral hole.

HOWEVER! There are many, many, wonderful people who are smart, ethical, and fabulous. They will do their best to make sure their Republican neighbors don't vote for this creep. That gives me hope.

Driving throughout the Birmingham area I see nary a Roy sticker or sign, and I see a host of Jones signs. Of course Birmingham is a blue island in a really red state.

Here is my hope regarding these revelations: While the Xtian right will get their base out, there will be many 'normal' Republicans who just can't stomach voting for him. They will not vote for Jones, but they will also stay home. This story will depress his turnout and boost Doug Jones' turnout. Doug MAY pull this out.

I've been saddened and disappointed by my state so many times. I'm pessimistic for a reason, but, I have a glimmer of hope.

DOUG JONES FOR SENATE!

I recall the guy who said something about a woman being raped could prevent the baby from being conceived. All she had to do was "will" that it would not happen and it would not happen. welllllllll

With 5, Ray More is done.. This scum can go to hell. If he says in, he will lose. And, he can call still them liars, and he will lose worse.
