Red state lawmakers find blue state piggy bank

Red states are using blue states as their new piggy bank in the GOP Congress.
On big legislative issues such as tax reform and ObamaCare repeal, Republicans in the Senate have sought to redistribute federal funds from New York, New Jersey and other blue states dominated by Democrats to the red states in the South, Midwest and Great Plains that are mostly represented by the GOP.
The most recent example is a GOP tax plan that would limit local and state sales, income and property tax deductions which would hurt suburban taxpayers in blue states with high property taxes.
Republicans are doing away with the deduction because they need to lower the cost of their tax bill, which reduces the corporate tax rate to 20 percent. It just so happens that the major deduction getting the axe delivers big benefits to blue-state taxpayers.

(23,091 posts)Hurting people in blue states so red rich folks get even richer. Hurt democrats the most, their own people a little less but lie all the time about how much this drumpf plan to reduce his personal taxes hurts his folks so much. Lie about the cuts to Medicaid and that under the budget, people will get kicked out of nursing homes and into the streets or their families houses.

(81,211 posts)Were a donor state. Still propping up the red states that take our money and then spit insults and putdowns and condemnation and holier-than-thous our way, in exchange. Of every dollar California pays in federal taxes, we only get back 78 cents.

(7,527 posts)IE "wealth redistribution".
I guess it's okay if rich senators with money in Paradise want to do it; it doesn't hurt them any.

(3,494 posts)Need to make states match to get federal money. We'll pay half if you put up half the money. Want a new interstate road? Put up 50% (in stead of 10%). This is what used to be the case before the depression. Let the reds do the public-private partnerships if they don't have the money or want to pay for it. I'm also for keeping the local tax money closer to where it's collected. This kind of transfers happens at the state level also.
