Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Saturday joined the growing chorus of Republican officials condemning GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore over decades-old allegations of sexual misconduct, saying that the Alabama conservative is "unfit for office."

Hogan is among the most recent Republicans to denounce the former Alabama Supreme Court justice and Senate hopeful amid allegations that he pursued sexual and romantic relations with teenage girls while he was in his 30s.
The allegations emerged in an explosive Washington Post report published Wednesday. One of Moore's accusers said she was just 14 years old when he initiated a sexual encounter with her in 1979.
Moore, who is now 70, has forcefully denied that allegation, though has not ruled out that he dated other girls in their late teens while he was in his early 30s.

(362 posts)If Moore wins, Democrats will have earned the right to declare social conservatism synonymous with child molestation for the next decade.

(14,487 posts)most write-in campaigns fail (though not all), so it would definitely increase Doug Jones's chances.

(3,322 posts)Also, from what I've heard Strange can't run as write in due to Sore Loser rule. Also, what i saw earlier this morning, the Governor's hands are limited to delay the election. Seems weather related was best shot at an election delay. My idea was for Strange's wife to run as write in, win, get seated and then step down and then the Governor appoints Mr. Strange. But shhhhhhh, don't let the governor hear about that possibility.

Seems like that routine sums up how repugs choose their candidates.

(3,055 posts)This man will rightfully be applauded for his bravery for saying this. But it's a shame this is today considered "brave" when it should be a given. Every man and woman in this country should be re-coiling in horror, and a vast, vast majority are. Yet there are those who are defending him, and those saying "If these allegations are true..." are part of it. These are not baseless allegations that someone came up with on the spur of the moment to mess with this guy. I have a couple of questions on part of the story, but all in all, these women are totally believable, and the research seems to be seamless. And I really think Hogan sums it up perfectly with "...if the offender was a Democrat." We all know that if the offender was a Democrat, those hypocrites would be screaming for his blood.

(34,407 posts)VERY blue state that sometimes elects moderate Republican governors. The voters there will support his speaking out.

(3,055 posts)I'm referring to those knuckle-draggers that seem to make up a majority of the GOP today. They'll come down on him with both feet. I expect the death threats to start any time now.

(34,407 posts)just among "his" voters, but MD voters in general. The crazy side of the GOP is not powerful in MD. It's a classic case of a state where the urban center residents greatly outnumber the rural residents.
If he were in a more right-leaning state, it would take great bravery for him to speak out.

Roy Moore supporters using Bible to rationalize child molesting.... Supporters!!!
They would not feel the need to do so if they really believed he was innocent.

If you object to football players engaging in peaceful, silent protest, but have no problem with Roy Moore's pedophilia, you may want to seek professional help.
