A new Alabama Senate poll, released Sunday morning, gives Democrat Doug Jones his first lead over Republican Roy Moore. The race, though, remains close.

Louisiana-based JMC Analytics conducted the poll after allegations of sexual misconduct by Moore were reported by The Washington Post.

The poll had Jones received 46 percent support in the poll to Moore's 42 percent. With a margin of error of 4 percent, however, the race is essentially a statistical tie.

The poll also had 9 percent of participants declaring themselves undecided.

Those who said they are voting for Jones when polled actually do vote for Jones when they get to the voting booth. I’m cynical that the dumbfuck racists actually will vote for Jones.

Anyone on the ground here in Alabama saw that something was happening before the allegations. I'm in North Alabama. I have been blown away seeing Doug Jones signs all over the place. Even driving up the mountain where the country club Republicans live there are Doug Jones signs everywhere. That was before the allegations came out. I don't think Doug Jones was winning but I think he was getting damn close. Without the allegations I think the remaining weeks were enough time for this race to become very competitive. Moore had just declined to debate and that news was making the rounds. With some pressure I think he would have relented and agreed to a debate in which Doug Jones would have destroyed him. I will say that those who were already supporting Moore are pretty much sticking by him. I've heard so many excuses from the article being a hit piece to it being unimportant because of murdered babies. If Moore loses they will blow it off and say the allegations were too much for Moore to pull it out but they need to reflect on why the race was competitive in the first place.

They are in trouble.
