Top Alabama newspaper: Voters must reject Moore

Source: thehill

By Mallory Shelbourne - 11/19/17 08:26 AM EST

A top newspaper in Alabama is calling on the state’s voters to reject Roy Moore in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations levied against the Republican Senate nominee and cast their ballots for Democrat Doug Jones.

In an editorial published late Saturday, The Birmingham News argued the election “is about the moral values of the people of Alabama.”

The newspaper urges voters to cast their ballots based on how the results will affect individuals at home, rather than on the national stage of politics.

“By the various misdeeds, miscalculations and mistakes of its voters and leaders, Alabama has left itself with few options. Alabamians must show themselves to be people of principle, reject Roy Moore and all that he stands for,” the editorial board writes.

“There is only one candidate left in this race who has proven worthy of the task of representing Alabama. He is Doug Jones.”

This sentence from the newspaper is so so so true:

“A vote for Roy Moore sends the worst kind of message to Alabamians struggling with of abuse: ‘if you ever do tell your story, Alabama won't believe you,’” the board says.

Insane Twitler supporters probably don’t read newspapers anymore. And I expect those same people are Moore supporters who don’t care when a newspaper editorial prints the obvious.

"Vacation in Alabama and molest all the young girls you want. It's O.K. here."

"No longer do you need to travel to exotic and obscure Asian countries to have sex with under age girls. Now you can do it right in your own back yard. Alabama: Safe haven for pedophiles."

The challenger is well in the lead, and the newspapers came out against Moore.

How do you get to your claim?

Gov. Ivey has said (essentially) that even though Moore may be a child molester, a pedophile, a liar, and anything else, as long as he is a Republican and will vote for Republican values/agenda, she will support him. Right now, the GOP agenda is one of hate and cruelty. Hatred for anyone who is different -- LGBTQIA, POC, immigrants (unless white and educated Eurpeans), people with disabilities. Cruelty toward just about everyone -- women, children, the poor, the elderly, all the above-mentioned "differents."

It almost boils down to, "If you are accused of a crime, all you have to do is say you uphold GOP values, and the governor's words let you off the hook."

I would never set foot in the state of Alabama. Never.
