Bannon: Gillibrand's shot at Clinton 'an earthquake' for Dem Party
Source: The Hill
BY MAX GREENWOOD - 11/19/17 09:00 AM EST
Breitbart News chief Steve Bannon said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's (D-N.Y.) suggestion this week that former President Bill Clinton should have resigned amid the Monica Lewinsky scandal of the 1990s amounted to an "earthquake in the Democratic Party," and marked the "opening shot" of the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries.
"Kirsten Gillibrand's comment about Bill Clinton I think is an earthquake in the Democratic Party, because the Wall Street-Clinton junta that controls the Democratic Party has really been bulletproof," Bannon told radio host John Catsimatidis in an interview aired Sunday.
"And I think you saw the first opening shot of the 2020 primary with Gillibrand, who clearly has presidential aspirations. She put a shot right across the bow of the Clintons."
Gillibrand, whose Senate seat was once held by Hillary Clinton, said in an interview with The New York Times on Thursday that former President Clinton should have stepped down after his inappropriate relationship with Lewinsky, a White House intern at the time, came to light in the 1990s.

Bannon: McConnell 'picking up his game' because of our 'insurgent movement'
BY MAX GREENWOOD - 11/19/17 09:00 AM EST
Steve Bannon, the executive chair of Breitbart News and former White House chief strategist, said that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is "picking up his game" amid threats to his power posed by the "insurgency movement" led by President Trump.
In an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis that aired Sunday, Bannon blasted McConnell for what he described as lackluster support for Trump's agenda, but noted that the majority leader has worked more aggressively in recent weeks to confirm judicial nominees, pass a budget and push forward a tax reform plan.
"Now that he's afraid, now that he sees that the grassroots movement whether it's in Alabama or Arizona or Tennessee or Mississippi is going to replace his cronies like Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, now he's scared, and now he's trying to move more federal judges through the system and really trying to cleave to President Trump's plan," Bannon said.
Bannon, who left his White House post in August, has railed against McConnell and the GOP establishment more broadly vowing to oust him as majority leader and install lawmakers more closely aligned with Trump's brand of conservatism.

(11,841 posts)but then I'd get a hide, like they were hidden originally! And NOT "InfoWars" or "FoxNews" sites either.
Just simply stories about a few things a lot of people here don't want to admit is "news"
I know that won't be good enough for you, but I'm not sure how to describe it and not be punished

(11,841 posts)yes, a fact based place to most, but if you post something factual but not popular, that the right jury gets, you'll get hidden. Before the change, you could see what was hidden if you wanted to. I've seen many laughable hides. Like middle schoolers with their feelings hurt.
Now, it merely says "post hidden" and if you didn't see it before then you never know what it was. And especially since the "don't rehash the primary" became a rule.
I had one hidden for mentioning news reported on CNN, USA Today, etc, in a thread about "current investigations" going on. And with he way things are, if I say what I may get THIS post hidden!! I've got darn near 10k posts, years here and have been called a RWer.

(3,744 posts)He's the last asshole I would listen to any "news" from. It doesn't matter if I disagree, the man has no credibility so why is anything from him or Breitbart even allowed? They aren't a credible news outlet. They are definitely propaganda. Otherwise I'm gonna keep my mouth shut because.....

That being said, Bannon's an idiot!

Bannon might as well start his own party now, otherwise he's toast in politics.

(1,701 posts)It is only on the Republican side that there are people with no legislative experience who dictate to federal elected officials what they should do. What are his qualifications to be setting policy? None, as far as I can see. The Republicans let themselves be dictated to by the likes of Grover Norquist, Rush Limbaugh and this cretin. If they had any spines, they would tell them to get lost.

(10,252 posts)He can't ruffle my feathers. Gillebrand is entitled to her own opinion, and I am entitled to disagree with it. Clinton-Lewinski was a consentual thing. I can't even call it an affair. It was completely stupid for both parties, but they were adults. I might add that Clinton was able to keep his marriage together, which is more than we can say about the current WH occupant. And isn't Bannon a divorced man?
All this sex scandal stuff is not going away, because some men are selfish and see women as objects for sex entertainment. That is not going to change. That sex sells newspapers and web site clicks, and TV viewership is also not going to change. Muckrakers love to knock iconic people off their pedestals.
I would go one further with the "Clinton-Lewinski...thing": Monica Lewinski was victimized by Linda Tripp. Lewinski got some revenge when she testified against her, but initially the older Tripp feigned friendship with Lewinski in order to encourage her to talk about her crush and sexual contact with Bill Clinton and then tape their conversations to use against him. This part of the repeatedly brought up allegations of sexual misconduct by former president Bill Clinton is constantly dropped from the narrative. It shouldn't be. If not for this we likely would never have known about it because Monica Lewinski was not the one to accuse Bill Clinton--in fact, she initially denied them. It was Ken Starr who was doing his best to find dirt on Clinton.
Still, Clinton did have sexual contact with the smitten Lewinski, was impeached and found fine enough to return to office, repaired his relationship with his wife, Hillary, and they went on to do positive work on the planet and at home.
Hopefully, Bannon will self-destruct and Gillibrand should walk back her comments some. Her "opinion" should have remained a private one and serves no constructive purpose on the current political landscape. What, are we going to go back and accuse many wonderful former presidents? Sexual escapades happened in the White House likely since day one. That can of worms should remain sealed.
My hat's off to you for your comment--

(9,670 posts)Nothing like the way the Earth will open and swallow the entire Trump cabal when Mueller starts dishing out the indictments.
Bannon will need to come up with some other superlatives to describe that...perhaps as he himself is engulfed in the tsunami of corruption, graft and conspiracy.

(12,165 posts)Many of us had a tenuous relationship with Bill Clinton. He was a brilliant politician. A flawed man and a triangular. The first baby boomer president.
I think Gillibrand is on-pitch with her comment. The wind has changed, and we are in the midst of a cultural shift in our attitudes about agency and harassment.

(53,743 posts)IMO it was foolish for her to fall into that trap and bring the whole Clinton/Lewinsky consensual affair between two adults up again instead of pivoting to Moore and trump's much more egregious and topical sexual abuse allegations.
There will be much tougher questions on the campaign trail so I question the judgment and readiness of someone so easily roped into throwing Clinton under the bus.

(9,967 posts)with getting support and endorsement from the Clintons when it was convenient to her. Now that she thinks "the wind has changed" she doesn't think twice about trowing Bill Clinton under the bus. Very disappointing
Many of us remember the Clinton years well, all the good work he did, and how he left the country in great shape. There was no reason for him to resign, and I'm glad he didn't.
I will never support Gillibrand, and I suspect many feel the way I do.
