Conyers stepping down as ranking Dem on House Judiciary Committee

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 11/26/17 12:27 PM EST

Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) is stepping down as the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee pending an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.

“After careful consideration and in light of the attention drawn by recent allegations made against me, I have notified the Democratic Leader of my request to step aside as Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee during the investigation of these matters," he said in a statement.

“I deny these allegations, many of which were raised by documents reportedly paid for by a partisan alt-right blogger. I very much look forward to vindicating myself and my family before the House Committee on Ethics," he added.

Just based on the good Conyers has done in that position, I want to say "NO, don't do it." On the other hand, I didn't run for office and win multiple times so I am not going to second guess the guy that did.

He doesn't take any crap from repukes, so he'll make a good ranking member and, hopefully, a good chair of the Judiciary Committee.

Then again, at this point given Conyers’ lucidity, that’s not saying much. But Nadler is genuinely great with the media among and we need all the help we can get in that department when it comes to House leadership and ranking members.

I think Rep. Adam Schiff is next in line, isn't he? He's been doing great interviews on MSNBC since the whole Russian thing heated up. I hope he gets the nod.

Also I hope Conyers kicks butt and takes names.
