USAT/Gallup Poll: Paul Ryan gets low marks for VP

Source: USA Today

Americans don't believe GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney hit a home run with his choice of Paul Ryan as a running mate, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, with more of the public giving him lower marks than high ones.

Ryan, a Wisconsin congressman, is seen as only a "fair" or "poor" choice by 42% of Americans vs. 39% who think he is an "excellent" or "pretty good" vice presidential choice.

Romney pollster Neil Newhouse said in a statement that the findings reflect the fact that Ryan, a House member since 1999, isn't widely known.

USA TODAY/Gallup Polls of registered voters after the announcements of running mates since Dick Cheney in 2000 all showed more positive reactions. Only Dan Quayle in a 1988 Harris Poll of likely voters was viewed less positively than Ryan, with 52% rating Quayle as a "fair" or "poor" vice presidential choice. The Ryan poll includes all adults, not just registered voters.

They couldn't at least differentiate between fair and poor?

The Ayn Rand worship depends on people who 1. can read for comprehension and 2. are emotionally past early adolescence.

Too many people don't meet the above test and don't care until it impacts *their* wallet and well being.

Apparently the American public considers it better to be oblivious of the issues than to be dead-wrong on them.

And apparently, a majority of Americans considers them that way.

They R "dividers" for personal gain, and it shows.

by making them the same issue.

Ryan has had a dozen years on the job and only passed 2 bills
Maybe he's been spending too much time on his personal Budget Proposal, and trying to keep the 1% paying less than 15%
So what tax rate did you pay for each of the last 12 years, Governor Romney?
And why do you think it is more important for YOU to see your VP's taxes than for the VOTERS?

Ryan is a stupid choice. He's a Palin in many ways... and shows how Romney has ZERO instincts. Ryan is the one the Koch Bros, and Adelman, and Norquist, wanted. Period.

Romney has YET to think about what the people of America actually want.

Most Americans pay very little attention to who's in Congress. Many don't know who their own congresscritter is, let alone one from another state.

But his poll numbers are NOT going to become more positive when more people get to know him. The spokesperson was implying that Ryan will become more popular once he spends more time on the national stage. I just don't see that happening.
