John Conyers Hospitalized For Stress-Related Illness Amid Sex Scandal

Source: CBS News Detroit

November 30, 2017 9:37 AM

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) – Congressman John Conyers has been hospitalized for a stress-related illness.

Family spokesperson Sam Riddle confirmed Thursday morning that the 88-year-old Conyers is seeking treatment at a local hospital. Riddle declined to detail exactly what Conyers is suffering from, but he told TV reporters it was stress-related.

“Monica Conyers, Mrs. Conyers, is by his side and we just ask, really the nation, to pray for this Congressman that has done so much for the nation,” Riddle told WWJ’s Ron Dewey.

Conyers, the longest-serving member of the U.S. House, is currently embroiled in a scandal after being accused of sexual misconduct by several former female staff members.

This only revisits victims memories of past unpleasant events....This does not evoke any changes....there has been no organized plan for change. The process has only made listeners become more skeptical of womens claims that are being player during a political climate of tRump chaos and are old, old subjective claims in the most part...What is happening without due process...it's character assination...

No watershed...no winning here...There is no transparency nor factual validation... temporary " fixes" only as in job firing...No real gains...these firings are only to stop the bleeding....

You'll provide evidence to support that allegation, yes? Well, let's be honest... all your statements were little more than unsupported allegations.

I'm discussing the timely flooding of claims of harassment as it deserves to to examined.

Claims may or may not be valid..not into defending an assailant... But...due process appears missing and this is a Democracy.. .Old timeline claims run the risk of diminished authenticity....I fear character assination results without due process.

Historical. . .there was an apparent legal agreement between claimant and Congressman...so that now is a not issue since agreement sealed...
Everyone one else making claims are not permitting due process....they are being coy, contemptible as the claims at this time can not be truly validated... causing character assination.

Stress is a very real health issue.

People might be imagining an "ELIZABETH, HERE I COME" type of moment with Conyers exploiting it to stop the allegations. But having a secret shame that comes out is enough to knock the props out from under anyone.

I'm not excusing Conyers, I'm just saying it might be ironic if this ends up being the literal death of him.

He's also sharp as a tack and knows the difference between right and wrong, or at least enough to know that the circumstances are entirely of his own doing.

He and the party are better off with him retiring.

I just read a bunch of stories and he definitely seems to be losing it.

I'm at the stage in life where things that feel like they just happened actually occurred a while back. The fact that it's been a full year since the 2016 is crazy. I've seen interviews with him where he's been great on policy issues, but I honestly can't say how far back they occurred.

Sorry. Now I feel like I'm losing it.

think he should retire when this term ends, not seek re-election, so his district can keep a Democratic in his place. I agree with you - RETIRE, not resign.

And it just so happens that these Dems under fire will be replaced by Trump fascists! How about that!!??

Look, 99.9% of these right wing operations prove out to be absolute bullshit or are so heavily embellished and twisted that they are in no way reflective of what really happened.

These allegations against Dems should be investigated if needed, but not with the right wing dictating the terms and the timeline. The right wing is trying to force quick resignations of these Dems so they can get their people in before anybody figures out what really happened.

Dems should not take the bait on this is all I'm saying. We've been hoodwinked by these SOB's a hundred times. It's time to stop it.
