Sen. John McCain said Thursday that he would back the Senate GOP tax legislation, clearing away another obstacle for Republican leadership as they move to pass a massive tax code overhaul by week's end.
The Arizona Republican, who helped tank the partys Obamacare repeal efforts earlier this year, has been a major question mark for weeks on the tax measure. He raised some general concerns about ballooning the deficit one reason he voted against the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 but stressed in his statement that he believed the tax measure would ultimately boost the economy and ease deficit issues.
I believe this legislation, though far from perfect, would enhance American competitiveness, boost the economy, and provide long overdue tax relief for middle class families, McCain said in a statement. This is not a perfect bill, but it is one that would deliver much-needed reform to our tax code, grow the economy, and help Americans keep more of their hard-earned money.

(9,426 posts)Maverick my aching arse. He is gop through and through. After careful consideration, I think it is time for TERM LIMITS. These deadbeats stay in office until their bank accounts overflow, then STILL want more at taxpayer expense. McCain is the same loser he was when he ended up 894 out of a class of 899, and his father paid for him to be promoted. He has crashed at least 2 multi million dollar airplanes, and STILL sucks off the taxpayers for expensive medical care which most of us can not afford. So glad he never made it into the WH, although the trash we have in there now is not much better.

(3,280 posts)When you're going to just ignore the CBO report on what the bill actually does? Why talk about your respect for your co-workers in the Senate if you're going to entirely disregard some of them like Claire McCaskill's brutal tackle of Orrin Hatch, here:
Spare us your furrowed brows, Senator McCain, you are in lock step with the most disgusting president and the cleptocrats enabling him if it means you'll get a tax break and screw people out of health care.

(10,086 posts)Republicans have sold their souls long ago. I hope they hang themselves these upcoming years and upcoming generations throw them out and tax the shit out of their ill gotten fortunes. As for the dems, they need to grow a pair or get out of the way.

I sure hope the GOP all burns in Hell because that's where they belong. McCain can be the first to go.

(2,785 posts)Only way a 3rd party would not do more harm than good is if the electoral college were eliminated and we moved to a runoff system.

I wouldnt be surprised is the rethugs are being compromised by the Russians. They want to destabilize and weaken our country then putin steps in as the strong leader worldwide. Twitler is a puppet.

(4,615 posts)This is the Reverse Robin Hood Tax Act, steal from the masses and give to the few. Once deficits start ballooning again, smarmy Ryan will fret in front of the cameras how we can't afford to continue social security, medicare, and medicaid anymore. No safety net, work until you die - however, given the lack of access to healthcare, at least we'll all die younger.
This country is being robbed blind by the vulture class. McCain is among them.

(493 posts)Senator John McCain is currently undergoing treatment for brain cancer. Treatments completely covered by his Federal Government Health Insurance Plan. Yet he intends to vote for a GOP tax bill, which eliminates/denies cancer treatments for future Medicare patients. Disgraceful!

Maybe he'll croak right before he votes to fuck up millions of lives, now that really would be taking one for the good of the country.

(27,995 posts)McCain was on our local news last night (in a wheelchair, btw) saying that he was still undecided. I've called, faxed, emailed and tweeted him and Sen. Flake multiple times over the past few weeks urging them to vote No.
I'm not hopeful that Flake will now be the "maverick" and vote no.

(3,252 posts)Whoever their handlers are tell them what to do . They are allowed to spout off a little or maybe vote against their party just enough to give them credibility. But when it comes to MONEY they always fall into line. I'm reasonably sure in my mind they both have hidden ecrets that their handlers know. It's the only rationale I can come up with thhat makes sense for their constant 180 degree turns.
