House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called on Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) to resign in the face of multiple sexual harassment allegations against the 88-year-old lawmaker.
"I pray for Congressman Conyers and his family and wish them well," Pelosi told reporters. "However, Congressman Conyers should resign."
Conyers left Washington on Tuesday following a meeting with Congressional Black Caucus members about his future. He has been hospitalized in Detroit with stress-related problems, according to Detroit TV stations.

(6,033 posts)If I understand correctly he has women come into his office while wearing a bathrobe.
There are two explanations for this kind of behavior
1. Sexual harassment.
2. Dementia. (He is almost 90. That could be an explanation for his behavior.)

(6,965 posts)He's 88.
A friend in Michigan told me about his "behavior" with women as far back as 10 years ago. It's gotten WORSE.
He does need to leave. Preserve his great legacy, his staff/women around him & HIMSELF.

(32,061 posts)The same goes for the speculation about dementia. When you put those two together, it starts to make some sense. If this turns out to be the case, it's sad and disappointing that no one intervened on his behalf. Surely, people would have known about it?

Even if we get the Senate in 2018 (And that's NO given), and even if fatso's impeached. SEVERE damage WILL have already been done going into the fall of 2018

(19,758 posts)where is the call for his resignation. While I like that we as Dems want to take the high ground, so time you got to go down low and fight dirty.
Dems should not ask for resignation of Conyers nor Franken until GOO asks for resignation of Trump.
I'm tired of us always taking the high ground. Fight back.

Why do we always fold up the tent? Let lawless Snyder add another Rethug in Congress?

(23,283 posts)Conyers is from a district that's been Gerrymandered to be filled with Dem voters. The only election that matters in the MI-13th is the Democratic primary. The general election is a gimme.

(6,965 posts)Franken should not resign. NO WAY. I also agree about principal/Dems fighting back.
But, Conyer's situation is different/worse than Franken's. At 88, Conyer's is dealing with mental/health issues on top of "horrible" sexual misconduct.

(2,552 posts)This isn't some kind of game here. Being sexually assaulted is serious event that can traumatize a person. The idea that no one should receive justice because one man got away with it is just plain disgusting.

(15,246 posts)He's 88 turning 89 in May. Now I know plenty of people are still sharp as a tack at that age, but being in Congress is a demanding job. Pelosi and the CBC should tell him he's served long and well and it's time to step aside when his term ends next year or retire due to health concerns given his current hospitalization.

(6,960 posts)... and the Democrats are descending into a moral panic chaos.
Make no mistake, the so-called Trump tax reform will bring right-wing tyranny ever so much closer.
Yet the hapless Democrats have no clear tax policy alternative; have made themselves virtually irrelevant in Congress; and now are willingly deciding to forego due process for the sake of righteousness.
All of these sexual misconduct accusations are serious and need to be dealt with scrupulously. But these ad hoc responses and calls for resignations without due process or a plan to deal with these accusations honestly and fairly is going to cripple the Democrats and distract them from the emergency that is just about to overtake us.
