Gay parades banned in Moscow for 100 years

Source: BBC

Moscow's top court has upheld a ban on gay pride marches in the Russian capital for the next 100 years.

Earlier Russia's best-known gay rights campaigner, Nikolay Alexeyev, had gone to court hoping to overturn the city council's ban on gay parades.

He had asked for the right to stage such parades for the next 100 years.

He also opposes St Petersburg's ban on spreading "homosexual propaganda". The European Court of Human Rights has told Russia to pay him damages.

Sounds like Putin's folks are really flexing their fascist muscles in Russia today.

"Powell’s retelling of his and Bush’s review of their first encounter with Putin. According to the blogger, Powell adopted “a suitable Texas twang” to recount the president’s reaction: “Powell, I looked into Putin’s eyes and I saw his soul.”

Powell said he replied, “Mr. President, I looked into President Putin’s eyes and I saw the KGB.” "

In the books, Bond was portrayed as a bit of a sociopath.

And, a sociopath, if you've read the actual Fleming books.

I think he is the best and most realistic Bond so far, and I was very dubious of his initial casting.

And, Craig doesn't look like Putin.

And, no, I am not being snarky. It's what they really remind me of. It's been like this for years, and this and the Pussy Riot show trial have really cemented it for me.

Russia is becoming a Christian Theocracy where any criticism of Christianity can get one jailed or worse! Putin is basically the dictator of Russia & has very close personal ties with the leadership of the Orthodox Church which is a recipe for a theocracy!! Which Republicans have dreamed of the USA becoming a Christian Theocracy for the past 30yrs or so!

I think its sad that they think allowing gay rights makes them more democratic and they dont want to appear like that . I hope we come to time when the gay issue is beyond politics and ideologies .

"RT" television, and post clips from it here all the time. That's Putin's KGB-style disinformation baby, crapping out garbage that way too many people lap up like it's ice cream. Oooh look! Bright green! Pretty colors!

As they say....Meh. Russia has a patina of capitalism, but they're as repressive as they always were. Just a bit more sophisticated.

I live in Russia as an ex-pat working here. This country is incredibly racist, xenophobic, and homophobic. It's been that way for centuries. It's an incredibly conformist society and unwelcoming to "The Other".

The brave few that challenge the corrupt czars are mercilessly beaten down. Pussy Riot had no chance. And to be gay here is a miserable thing. I have coworkers who are clearly gay, but they hide behind "beards" because being openly gay here is too "shameful".

There is nothing at all surprising about this ruling. Nothing will change here before this ban runs out.

Most Russians are atheists and it is not more hospitable to the gay community.

Now I will boycott ALL parades in Russia.
