Cardinal George apologizes for linking Pride Parade to KKK

Source: Chicago Tribune

Chicago's Cardinal Francis George apologized Friday for remarks aired on Christmas Day comparing the gay pride parade to the Ku Klux Klan.

"I am truly sorry for the hurt my remarks have caused," George said in an interview with the Tribune. "Particularly because we all have friends or family members who are gay and lesbian. This has evidently wounded a good number of people. I have family members myself who are gay and lesbian, so it's part of our lives. So I'm sorry for the hurt."

... "When I was talking, I was speaking out of fear that I have for the church's liberty and I was reaching for an analogy which was very inappropriate, for which I'm sorry," George said. "I didn't realize the impact of what I was saying. ... Sometimes fear is a bad motivation."

... Chris Pett, president of Dignity Chicago, an independent ministry for gay, lesbian and transgender Catholics, welcomed the cardinal's apology.

So long as he defines his church's liberty as his having a right to impose his church's doctrine on persons who do not share his religious beliefs, his whimpering about fear for his church's liberty is disgusting as it is dangerous to civil society. His pretense homosexuals persecute the Catholic church would, in a sensible polity, be considered grounds for involuntary psychiatric examination to determine if the degree of delusion was incapacitating, and rendered the man a danger to himself or others owing to his detactchment from reality.

At least he gave a true apology. None of this "I'm sorry IF I offended anyone." He owned up to the fact that his words hurt.

Now, that being said, I'm am so pissed by the actions of the Catholic Church (after 13 years in Catholic schools) and what they're all getting away with. The last time I went to Mass by choice, the sermon was all about how people without children are selfish and committing sins. That priest had absolutely no idea why people don't have children. I wish now I had gotten up and walked out. At the meet and greet as we walked out of church I told the priest he was wrong. As far as the child abuse cases...too many nasty nasty men running the Church!

Time to open your closed eyes, and time to get to KNOW people rather than fester in your own paranoid delusions of what you think others are really like. How embarrassing.

As for Cardinal George - I have to wonder if any parade route in Chicago doesn't go past a Catholic Church!

What amazes me about these people is that they profess to the teachings and principles of Christ; while completely missing his message – am I the only one who sees this?

If he wants to compare institutions, he should be comparing the Vatican to fascism.
