Kushner family business failed to get financing from Qatar and the country got blockaded a month later

A new report from The Intercept is raising fresh questions about the role that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushners family business interests play in Trump administration foreign policy.
According to the publications sources, Kushner Companies met last April with Qatari Finance Minister Ali Sharif Al Emadi to try to secure an investment for its troubled property at 666 Fifth Avenue in New York City.
The attempt to get money directly from the Qatari government apparently went nowhere, however and then weeks later Qatar was hit by a massive international blockade.
The failure to broker the deal would be followed only a month later by a Middle Eastern diplomatic row in which Jared Kushner provided critical support to Qatars neighbors, the publication writes. Led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, a group of Middle Eastern countries, with Kushners backing, led a diplomatic assault that culminated in a blockade of Qatar. Kushner, according to reports at the time, subsequently undermined efforts by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to bring an end to the standoff.

But that's exactly where Tillerson's disagreements with the White House seem to come in. On the same day that Tillerson urged swift reconciliation earlier this month, Trump congratulated the Saudis and Emiratis on their hard but necessary move.
According to a report published by journalist Mark Perry in The American Conservative, Tillerson was furious, particularly irked by what he perceived to be the influence the UAE's envoy in Washington seems to have over the White House. Here's Perry:
A close associate of the secretary of state says that Tillerson was 'absolutely enraged that the White House and State Department werent on the same page.' Tillersons aides, I was told, were convinced that the true author of Trumps statement was UAE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba, a close friend of Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner. 'Rex put two-and-two together,' his close associate says, 'and concluded that this absolutely vacuous kid was running a second foreign policy out of the White House family quarters. Otaiba weighed in with Jared and Jared weighed in with Trump. What a mess.' The Trump statement was nearly the last straw for Tillerson, this close associate explains: 'Rex is just exhausted. He cant get any of his appointments approved and is running around the world cleaning up after a president whose primary foreign policy adviser is a 36-year-old amateur.'
News of Tillerson's frustration bubbled to the surface on Thursday when Politico reported that the secretary of state exploded at a meeting last week at the White House, complaining about his inability to staff State Department posts. The outburst apparently stunned senior White House officials.

(56,828 posts)and it was found out that Chelsea Clinton's husband was running US foreign policy out of their room in the White House and Clinton's SoS knew nothing about it?
Republicans would have demanded both Chelsea and her husband be fired and that Hillary be impeached, and the firestorm would have been so big that most Democrats would have gone along with it.

(11,572 posts)There are many stories coming out that should be major scandals. There are so many that it is hard to keep track. The usurper president is yelling that everything is fake news, a witch hunt, and tweeting that everything going wrong is someone else's fault (like Obama or Democrats in Congress). Enough people believe and support the POS in the White House that the rest of us are appalled and frustrated beyond belief. All this is made worse when one takes into account that the strings are being pulled by Russia and some pretty sick billionaires like Mercer, Adelson, and others.
The media finds itself having a numbing effect on us--either deliberately like Fox News, or because these stories are so regular now and seem so over the top that it is hard to keep up--particularly with the distractions deliberately being flung from the White House.

(22,093 posts)allowing conflicts of interest to be ignored while he loaded his cabinet w/ cronies and relying on his family first prior to listening to any experts available by the thousands. tRUMP is the problem. No one else is.
tRUMP needs to be dumped and dumped fast. It's obviously he's raiding the country's piggy bank while distracting the rest of us while he is doing it.
A traitor through and through. Him and his family are toxic to this country's health, along w/ the gop, who has shown remarkable restraint during all of the tRUMP bullshit that's been going on.
The economy is limping along, government deficits are going sky high, tRUMP initiated trade wars will impede our future growth prospects, all while collapsing the value of the dollar (another tax on us by the way, w/ gas and import prices going up). The tax cuts of 2018 is going mostly to those who don't spend money anyway (the 1%ers), and thus, won't help grow the economy. There will be no 'consumer-directed spending' to save us this time around. We don't have any additional savings/income coming in, to replace the things that we lost. A vicious cycle that will continue and continue.
All while our military and intelligence agencies are under attack by none other than tRUMP himself. No one else is doing this, only tRUMP.

(22,093 posts)tRUMP himself bragged about the last crash and the properties he picked up for next to nothing. It's what he wants for himself and his family. And what's sad about it is that his gop cronies are sitting there watching him do it, despite their long term convictions that tariffs are bad, free trade is good, and so forth.
Take care.

Jared is a special assistant to the US President. If I might remind you, he is not receiving any monetary compensation for he hard work. Then why shouldn't Jared be allowed to use the power of the US government as a vehicular motif to help meet his personal financial obligations ?
Why should corrupt practices not be in his tool box of remedies to avoid personal bankruptcy ? Give the poor guy a break.

(5,168 posts)but the Qatar money was contingent on Kushner bringing Anbang of China onboard, and he couldn't convince them to underwrite the bulk of his project, IIRC. Qatar never said he would get the money, otherwise. He just had a hissyfit when his deal fell through.
