Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake says the Republican Party is in a 'bad place'
Source: CNN
Outgoing Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake says the Republican Party is in a "bad place," and that President Trump does not behave in the way that "a conservative should act."
In an interview on David Axelrod's show, "The Axe Files," airing on CNN Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, Flake blasted the direction the Republican Party was heading.
"We've stopped being the party of limited government, economic freedom, individual responsibility ... and kind of drifted off to fight the culture wars," said Flake, who announced late last year that he would not run for re-election.
"That's when you always know you're in a bad place. When you stop talking, as a Republican, about limited government or limiting spending and you start talking about flag burning or other cultural issues or immigration to try to make up for not being conservative fiscally. You have to emphasize other issues," he said.

The GOP is slowly committing suicide by suffocation.

(15,222 posts)The Tea Party was a fabrication of some external interests with an interest in destroying any democratic processes.
The GOP did have some reasonable conservatives in its ranks at one point but the oxygen has been removed from their environment, replaced by sulfur-breathers - primordial life forms including brimstone spouting fake-xians and other charlatans.

(20,998 posts)...by several simple, logical and "good" deeds:
1. Each and every time tRump* dragged out the "Obama is not American" or the "show us the birth certificate" bullshit, the Republicans *could have* denounced tRump* for the lying sack of shit that he is, and stood up for truth... but no, Senator Flake, you and all the other Republicans in Congress did not speak out for truth, you let the sideshow continue. Your silence was deafening.
2. When Comrade McConnell* and the Senate Republicans did not even allow President Obama's choice for the Supreme Court to have a fair Senate hearing, effectively stealing Obama's right to nominate a Supreme Court justice, the Republicans showed that the rule of law need not apply if it served Republican needs to violate the law.
And finally, Senator Flake, the Republican Party "...stopped being the party of limited government, economic freedom, individual responsibility ... and kind of drifted off to fight the culture wars" during the reign of Ronnie the Raygun*.
Yes, Senator Flake, today's Republican party is in a very bad place... and you helped drive the car that got it there.
