LONDON (AP) British Prime Minister Theresa May has spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump and expressed deep concern about his threatened trade war with the European Union. Mays office says she discussed the issue with Trump during a telephone call Sunday.
Trump has threatened to tax European cars if the EU boosts tariffs on American products in response to the presidents plan to increase duties on steel and aluminum.
Mays office says she raised our deep concern at the presidents forthcoming announcement on steel and aluminum tariffs, noting that multilateral action was the only way to resolve the problem of global overcapacity.
The leaders also discussed Syria and humanitarian concerns in eastern Ghouta. Mays office says they agreed the overwhelming responsibility for suffering falls on the Syrian government and Russia, its main backer.

UKs Theresa May raises deep concern over tariffs in call with Trump
BY LUIS SANCHEZ - 03/04/18 01:07 PM EST
British Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday raised concerns to President Trump over his announced plans to increase steel and aluminum tariffs.
May told the president in a phone call that multilateral action was the only way to resolve the problem of global overcapacity in all parties interests," according to a Downing Street spokesperson.
Trump announced last week that he plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum.
Critics say that the tariffs will likely lead to retaliatory tariffs that could result in a trade war.
The U.K. steel industry reacted with concern.

(14,737 posts)...in gambling on President Fart giving her a trade deal when we commit economic suicide and leave the EU. Britain doesn't have the influence to stop President Fart's "America First" protectionism. The EU on the other hand is big enough to stand up to the bullying.
