Trump to consider elephant trophy imports on 'case-by-case' basis
Source: The Hill
The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) announced last week that it will now consider all permits for importing elephant trophies from African nations on a case-by-case basis," breaking from President Trump's earlier promises to maintain an Obama-era ban on the practice.
In a formal memorandum issued on Thursday, FWS said it will withdraw its 2017 Endangered Species Act (ESA) findings for trophies of African elephants from Zimbabwe and Zambia, effective immediately.
The memo said the findings are no longer effective for making individual permit determinations for imports of sport-hunted African elephant trophies.
In its place, FWS will instead grant or deny permits to import a sport-hunted trophy on a case-by-case basis.

(22,059 posts)I don't suppose Zimbabwe or Zambia would consider putting a stop to this? The only way I can think of is if it became more profitable not to allow the plunder. I've never understood how this is "sport" anyway. Its not like you can miss an elephant from a mile away.
So FWS is going to ignore their own findings. Kind of like ignoring climate change. Where the hell do you hang a huge elephant's head anyway?
I don't have a problem with seeing Rump and his boys' heads on pikes.....

(22,059 posts)Trump himself acknowledged that corrupt governments were misappropriating trophy hunt money. In January, Trump said the following of the trophy hunt rule change: I thought it was terrible. That was done by a very high-level government person. As soon as I heard about it, I turned it around the same day. So how is it that the FWS has turned it back around again and is pressing forward on allowing an undetermined number of elephant trophy imports? Trump has not commented on the issue since the FWSs latest action.
