Majority of voters say NRA has too much influence over politicians

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 03/06/18 02:44 PM EST

Six in ten Americans believe the gun lobby has too much influence over U.S. politicians, according to a Qunnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

In the poll, 60 percent of Americans said that the National Rifle Association (NRA) has "too much influence" over lawmakers, while just 26 percent said the organization has the "right" amount of influence and only seven percent who says the NRA is not influential enough.

In general, voters are slightly more likely to say Republican lawmakers fear the NRA than do Democrats. Fifty-four percent said Republicans in Congress are scared of the NRA, while 49 percent say the same about Democrats.

Most voters don't believe that GOP hesitance towards challenging the NRA extends to the president, however. Sixty-five percent of Americans say they don't believe Trump will be intimidated by the NRA's lobbying efforts.

Poll: Majority of Americans disagree with Trump's statement that trade war would be good for U.S.

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 03/06/18 02:48 PM EST

The majority of Americans said they disagreed with President Trump's statement that a trade war would be good for the U.S. and easily won, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

Sixty-four percent of those polled said they disagreed with Trump, while 28 percent said they agreed with the president.

Trump announced last week that the U.S. would slap a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum. Fifty percent of those surveyed said they opposed the move, while 31 percent said they agreed with it.

The announcement was met with alarm among various major U.S. allies.

Because what the NRA will do is simply to fund negative advertising against candidates they don't like, on subjects having nothing to do with guns.

"Joe Blow says he wants to be your Congressman.

But what do you really know about him?

(cue the scary music)

In 1987, Joe checked a book out of the public library, returned it late, and never paid the late fee.

A year later, the librarian was murdered by an illegal immigrant.

Is that the sort of representation we need in Congress?

Just say no to Joe Blow."
