Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) issued a statement condemning the Trump administration's move to implement 25 percent tariffs on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum imports, predicting the decision will "harm the American economy" and "hurt American workers."
McCain issued the statement Thursday afternoon after the White House officially implemented the tariffs first proposed by Trump last week.
President Trumps decision to impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will not protect America," McCain wrote. "Reminiscent of failed protectionist trade policies of the past, this decision will harm the American economy, hurt American workers, and damage relations with Americas allies and partners." The Arizona senator and free trade proponent went on to blast Trump for not taking surgical action against trade abuses committed by China, while instead levying tariffs that hurt America's allies and risk a global trade war.
"President Trump compounded that mistake by forfeiting the opportunity to take targeted action to hold China accountable for its behavior in international trade. Instead, he chose to adopt sweeping tariffs that will punish our most important allies and partners all around the world," he wrote.

(11,885 posts)Just like they've done to the ACA and health care, which is now said to increase 90% in the next 3 years, then add the tax scam, and this, the orange turd will tell you just like W did . The economy is fine, when its going to create a recession heading for a depression. Remember he said we'd have cheaper and much better health care, and he claimed we'd get a huge tax break, when the wealthy got a 6-8 trillion windfall, and the rest of us will lose 6-8 trillion of our economy. This will be no different, and he'll keep lying telling the American people the opposite of the truth. Remember his claim this trade war would be easy, but the truth is he's causing a recession, or worse, and almost on purpose.
