President Obama said Monday that he isn't too worried about two groups of military veterans running campaign ads against him.
Last week, two groups Special Operations Speaks and Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund - formed to criticize Obama on national security policy, the Osama bin Laden raid and intelligence leaks.
I dont take these folks too seriously. One of their members is a birther who denies I was born here, despite evidence to the contrary," Obama told The Virginian-Pilot. "Youve got another who was a tea party candidate in a recent election."
"This kind of stuff springs up before election time," Obama said.
The founder of one group, ex-Navy SEAL Larry Bailey, told Foreign Policy magazine last week: "I have to admit that I'm a birther."

Time for a smackdown--bring on the clips of General McRaven attributing the success of the mission to BO.

(17,064 posts)Though noisy, they were mostly preaching to the choir. I doubt many voters changed their mind due to them.
Kerry lost because he was running against an incumbent, election shenanagins in Ohio, and he didn't convince swing voters a change in status quo was warranted.

(582 posts)Opsec is not "spy stuff". That alone gives the takes away the legitimacy of this group. Opsec is a concept of controlling phones calls, mixing up routines while prepping aircraft or distributing frag orders, and generally changing behavior as to not opponents a clue about to transpire. Dates back to the Nam era and pounded into the heads of all Air Force personnel (I cannot speak for sure about the other services, but I'm sure they remember too). Consider when BUsh ordered Powell to discuss means of data collection when trying to persuade the US that there were WMD in Iraq, I had kittens. Had I said any of that the FBI or OSI would be knocking at the door. This all has Karl Rove written all over it. The problem is I think the Republican rank and file will lap it up.

(582 posts)I'm referring specifically to the term OPSEC and having it called "spy stuff." It is intellectual laziness to over characterize, and I'd rather it were the cons that displayed that ignorance. Again, I was appalled when Colin Powell briefed the UN on our evidence of WMD by revealing our collection techniques.
