Dem leaders rally behind anti-abortion rep in tough primary contest

Source: The Hill

House Democratic leaders are rallying behind Rep. Daniel Lipinski (D-Ill.) as he faces the toughest primary contest in his 14 years on Capitol Hill.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Joseph Crowley (N.Y.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, have all come out vocally in recent days to throw their weight behind the incumbent, a centrist Blue Dog being challenged by a liberal anti-bullying activist who’s questioning Lipinski’s Democratic bona fides.

“I support Dan,” Crowley said this week.

The race has become a flashpoint in the much broader debate over the direction of the party as it seeks to hone its message — and tamp down divisions between liberals and centrists — to win back the House in November’s midterm elections.

IF that is what the demos show then I too would support the person because this one person cant and wont EVER do anything to choice as long as he is in the D party, but a R being put in this position CAN...

THINK about what I just said.

That is known as long ball. I tried to point that out with the 2016 election. Hillary would have been good for the Supreme Court, women's health issues, the environment, infrastructure, foreign policy, universal health insurance, minimum wage etc. Instead we suffer 24/7.

Newman, Lipinski's challenger, abosolutely can win the mid-term election. The Republican challenger is an avowed Nazi. The district is very solidly Dem. Lipinski only has his seat because his father repped the district before him. He has to go. I'll be canvassing for Newman all weekend.

The reason is electablity. We have to keep that in mind in many of our races. We are trying to retake the House, people!

Enough with the purity crap.

It's always been solidly Dem. The only reason the Republicans didn't bother to kick the Nazi off the ballot is because no other Rs want to run just to get their ass kicked. Newman can beat any Republican -- especially a Nazi -- in this district. It's time for a change to a real Dem who supports the Dem agenda.

Hard to support a Democrat who does not support equality when the other choice is a Democrat who does.

This is a perfect chance to keep a seat and move it left. Unfortunately once you get to Washington you’re in “the club”.

I will applaud her when she does the right thing, I will call her out when she doesn't. For some strange reason, people simply can't stand it when one disagrees with anyone who has a D after their name regarding an issue that they find important.
