Students to march 50 miles to Ryan's hometown to demand gun control

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 03/12/18 10:28 AM EDT

Students in Wisconsin are organizing a 50-mile march to Speaker Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) hometown later this month to demand action on gun control.

The students plan to begin the trek, called "March for Our Lives: 50 Miles More," in Madison, Wis., and will march to Janesville, Wis. The 50-mile march will begin on March 25, a day after the March for Our Lives event, where people will rally in Washington, D.C. and across the country for action against gun violence.

The 50 Miles More March co-leader Katie Eder, a senior at Shorewood High School in Wisconsin, said she knows it's easy for the media and politicians to move on from gun violence tragedies.

"We have grown up experiencing school shootings followed by this inaction, and we refuse to let it happen this time,” she said in a press release.

Seriously though, if they walked across the entire United States, Ryan wouldn't give a Shit.

Maybe if they brought a few Million $$$$$$$$$$ with them, it might sway him, but even that probably isn't enough to stop his devotion to the NRA.

The more he ignores them, the more effective their actions become. I think the best hope we have of breaking the Republican Congress and the NRA rest in their total obstruction. Even small concessions from them might undermine public resolve.

12. Nice post, but I doubt the march is designed to parley with Ryan.

Nice post, but I doubt the march is designed to parley with Ryan.

Much more likely it's designed to keep the momentum going, get more people talking and affect change through collective sentiment rather than convincing Ryan.

but they're making a statement, and that statement is that Ryan is corrupt and they will change the country. Watching students across the country getting mad and ACTIVE gives me more hope than I've had since Nov. 8, 2016.

7. Waste of time. Ryan will only vote for things that cause MORE gun sales

and he will make it a point to be elsewhere. When he does that, it must be publicized over and over. Every Democrat running for office in Wisconsin must emphasize it.

VietNam didn't end after the first march or rally, this is a wave that's pounding the shore getting stronger over time. Do not underestimate motivated young adults - remember, they own the internet.
