Top congressional Democrats are urging President Trump to "devote all available resources" to bringing 13 Russian nationals accused of meddling in the presidential election to the United States so they can stand trial.
Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.), House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) and Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.)the top Democrats on the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, respectivelysent a letter to Trump, saying the government "has a number of tools at its disposal" to bring the individuals to the United States.
"We write to urge your administration to devote all resources available to ensure that the Russian nationals indicted for allegedly interfering with the 2016 elections are brought to justice and stand trial in the United States," they wrote.
Special counsel Robert Mueller brought charges against 13 Russian nationals last month for allegedly interfering in the 2016 White House race. But Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month that he would "never" extradite the individuals.

(5,969 posts)They only give him a chance to pretend taking a meaningless position against Russia which he might not even do. Just as it was in the case of Snowden, Russia can just say no and that's the end of the story.

(4,358 posts)More evidence that he is not even trying to defend the US and that he takes his marching orders from Putin.
Democrats and the media should be hammering Trump every single day asking "Why won't you take even the most basic, symbolic steps to protect the country from future attacks?"

(35,191 posts)But Putin's already given his answer and all the pressure would do is make Putin look studly to his audience in resisting the US.
However, it's another way of scoring political points--if Trump does and fails, score! If he doesn't try, score! If Trump tries and gets them extradited, score!
On the other hand, if he tries and wastes political capital, who cares? The goal is to help make sure that Trump fails, and if he spends whatever capital he has trying to get the 13 extradited then he'll have none left for other things.
Those 13 are not in my top 100 things I'd like to see Russia bend on.
