I would have to say, no, we did not deserve that, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee said with a laugh Saturday at an event in Mumbai, India, when asked by India Today editor Aroon Purie about Trump and the saying that countries deserve the governments they get.
He ran the first reality TV campaign and he was the first reality TV candidate, Clinton said of her one-time White House opponent.
If you watch reality TV, you know it means that the person who is the most outrageous, the person who says the politically incorrect things, the person whos insulting and attacking, drives big ratings, Clinton, 70, continued.

I think most voters want a president who keeps her cool, who is calm and composed, and doesnt get thrown off her game, or get upset, or get angry, or, heaven forbid, emotional. So Im not going to respond, Clinton said she determined in the moment.

(58,785 posts)voted third party nevertheless turned our nation over to venal and bigoted barbarians through their negligence and stupidity. Just those latter made all the difference.
I've never met but have heard of a few people who said they didn't think they'd need to vote, that she'd win without, and were sorry. But that honesty seems to be rare.
Otoh, since 2016 I've personally heard people still say voting doesn't matter and a couple defend their disastrous third-party throwaway votes as principled. They seemed to be every bit as unrepentant as trumpsters and every bit as incapable of sufficient honesty and insight to take responsibility for turning the nation over to the kleptocrats now destroying it.
No excuses. And perhaps they're too stupid to deserve the dreadful consequences of what they did, but the people who are kidnapped into holding camps in the desert and those who already are wondering how they'll get along without healthcare next year don't deserve what these people did to them either.

(6,288 posts)Once again, Sec Clinton is absolutely correct.
The reality TV show candidate came with all the drama of a reality TV show.
And MSM played the game without a second thought to the cost to our country.
"Money & Media" reaped astonishing profits while the future of this great America was flat out ignored.
Thank you Sec Clinton.
She says it for what it was.

(1,105 posts)We both deserve and need someone like him.
Traditionally we have some of the lowest turnouts for presidential elections of all developed nations. Living in a democratically elected representative form of government is not a spectator sport.
In 2016 we found out what can happen if too many of us view it that way and decline to participate.
We are currently living through what is called "the dark night of the soul" in many traditions. The good news is that if we get through it we may find ourselves in a whole new type of society. The bad news is we may not survive it.

NEW DELHI Hillary Clinton said over the weekend during a trip to India that the United States did not deserve the presidency of Donald Trump.
The former presidential candidate spoke at an event in Mumbai, where she schmoozed with Bollywood stars and where a well-known journalist warmly introduced her as the woman who should have been the president of the United States of America.
In her speech, Clinton spoke of the dangers of Russian influence and authoritarianism in regimes worldwide. These are perilous times, she said.
Later, when asked about the seemingly close relationship between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, now subject of a special counsel's investigation, Clinton replied: Trump does have quite an affinity for dictators. He really likes their authoritarian posturing and behavior.
He does have a preexisting attitude of favorability toward these dictators, but I think its more than that with Putin and Russia, she said.
Do they have something on him? asked the events host, India Today Editor Aroon Purie.

We would have the President we deserve if we went by the popular vote. It wouldn't be as easy for Putin to manipulate our elections if we went by the popular vote.

(90,646 posts)Sometimes, though, when Trumpland looks particularly dark, I think the person we did not "deserve" was Barack Obama -- that he was too good for what we have decided to become. Then I remind myself that this is the depression talking, and I go back to encouraging other people to not give in to that kind of thinking.

Americans deserve EXACTLY who or what they vote for and as Obama said "Elections have consequences" so next time instead of splitting the vote, or protest voting America should remember what that gets us and quit whining about the results..

(11,795 posts)he IS what we deserve (as a country). People can't be bothered to learn about the issues. Can't be bothered to shut off a news station that's constantly proved wrong (see massive unemployment due to Obamacare, death panels under Obamacare, Obama's going to take all your guns, etc) Can't be bothered to get off their lazy asses to vote against an obvious fascist. But, can be counted on, to be sure, to vote for the next "American" fucking "Idol". Yeah, we deserve him. Breaks my heart, but I don't see it any other way.
