Authorities on Thursday released video surveillance footage showing the outside of the Parkland high school where a teenage gunman opened fire, killing 17 people and wounding 15 in Florida’s deadliest campus shooting.

Citing “strong public interest,” a Broward judge last week ordered public release of the four video clips from the surveillance system at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. The clips do not show the carnage inside Building 12, but depict police response on campus outside.

Exactly how the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded in the initial moments of the Feb. 14. massacre has been the focus of extensive national criticism. When gunfire broke out at 2:21 p.m. ,school resource deputy Scot Peterson arrived within minutes, but took up a position outside and never entered the building to engage shooter Nikolas Cruz.

The video footage released offers a limited viewpoint that focuses mainly on Broward Deputy Scot Peterson.

Every lawmaker with an A+ from the NRA who is stopping reasonable gun regulation legislation should have to view videos from inside the school during the shooting.

They need to see the pandemonium and hears the screams of terror.

They talk about desensitization to violence through movies and games but even as "real" as they make it, it's not the same thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Just like what people saw on TV during vietnam, it'll be what puts the final nail into this saga.

The Coroner's report will tell the tale of what ONE GUN can do, but pictures would paint a picture for the whole nation to contemplate in the gun debate.

Basically, even trained cops would have hard time responding.

I have a friend who's a vet who served in Iraq and (I think) Afghanistan. NCO, Army infantry.

He told me he had six years under his belt in training before deploying to Iraq. He said the first time he was in combat, he damned near shit himself and, for an instant, forgot all his training. And he was trained, smart, and armed to the teeth. Obviously, he survived all his deployments and, equally obviously, has the perspective to understand how untrained and armed teachers might respond in a "firefight."
Needless to say, he thinks arming teachers is beyond stupid.
