Dog that accidentally ended up in Japan now back home in Kansas

Source: KMBC

Irgo, the German Shepherd that accidentally ended up in Japan after a mistake at an airport is now back where he belongs in Kansas.

His family was flying from Portland, to Denver, then into Kansas City on a United flight earlier this week.

They said between flights, the dog was staying at a pet hotel in Denver, but instead of being placed on a plane to Kansas City, he was shipped all the way to Nagano, Japan.

“I just can’t even fathom how this happened,” said Kara Swindle, the dog’s owner.

I'm old enough to remember airlines doing that on diverted flights in the 60s. One from DFW to Louisville got diverted to Jacksonville and by the time we got home, at least half the plane was smashed.

Seriously, I can't imagine the misery that poor animal went through on that flight - two trips across the Pacific and half the U.S......

and they'll make them again today, and tomorrow, and the next day. I'd be more surprised if I didn't read a story like this every once in awhile.

If the dog spent the night in a pet hotel the owners may have used a shipping service that made the mistake. Although airlines can goof up a lot.

In the original story it was made clear that the correct crate arrived in Kansas but the dog in it was not the correct one. It was a Great Dane who was supposed to go to Japan.

How do you mistake a Great Dane for a German Shepherd?

Wouldn't it be a bit cramped? Or maybe the kennels are just a standard 'large' size?

Hope the Great Dane made it home safely, too...

Airlines, which are nothing but people like you and me, will continue to make mistakes and stories like this will continue to make the news.
