President Donald Trump hyped the partisan report issued by the House Intelligence Committees Republican majority that found no evidence of Russian collusion.
The GOP majority voted Thursday to end their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and instead turned their attention to punishing leaks from the intelligence committee.

(6,377 posts)I can understand his logic, not wanting too look like he was trying to sway the election.

(10,870 posts)In hindsight, I bet he does.
But, he was in rock and hard place knowing that the Right would scream he was making stuff up o help Hillary win.
Plus, like most everyone else, he thought she would win.

(2,161 posts)... but sometimes things are still blurred.
I agree, Obama was in a no-win situation. I dont fault him for his choice, though, since I doubt that things would have turned out differently, and might have turned out worse.
The country would be just as polarized now, and I dont think enough people would have changed their vote based on this information. Then again, given the thin marginal wins in some states, it might have been enough....
*sigh*
Sometimes I wish I didnt think so much.

(57,079 posts)the screaming about how the "Kenyan" had interfered with a fake threat to the election in the middle of the campaign? President Obama was in a pinch either way. What surprised me was how little Russian influence bothered "Conservatives".

(43,181 posts)He couldn't ignore what Russia was doing with Trump, but if he spoke out, inevitably the charge would be that he was attempting to influence the election and it would backfire.
It was basically an impossible situation. LBJ was faced with a similar scenario when he learned about Nixon's efforts to scuttle peace talks in Vietnam in 1968.

(5,493 posts)Not confronting him and telling the American public the truth was a tragic error. If reversed, the Republicans would have openly and publicly accused the Democrats of colluding with Putin. We need to stop being Ned Stark.

(7,286 posts)He does not blame Obama for the meddling. He blames him for the response

(8,702 posts)What Trump says doesn't have any meaning on Russia. Considering he's one of the people involved.

(37,322 posts)did nothing to improve trump's fitness to hold office. And that was obvious from the beginning. Hanging this on the Russians takes the GOP off the hook. They and his dolt supporters own this. Not Obama, and not the Russians.

(70,501 posts)So Obama had Russia hack the election so Hillary would lose?
BTW if the hacking never really happened according to Trump then
why would President Obama have had to do something about it?
