'Vote them out!' - Thousands register to vote at U.S. gun-control marches
Source: Reuters
Voter registration activists fanned out among young Americans who marched for tighter gun laws on Saturday, signing up thousands of first-time voters who vowed to eject lawmakers who oppose gun controls.
With mid-term Congressional elections eight months away, the activists flocked to some 800 marches across the country to enroll young voters likely to back Democratic and independent candidates who tend to favour tougher firearms laws.
In Washington, volunteers for the HeadCount voter-registration effort raised their fists and chanted demonstration without registration leads to frustration before heading out with clipboards to sign up some of the nations newest voters.
Parklands Emma Gonzalez called for more Americans to vote and that is why Headcount is here today, volunteer Aaron Ghitelman, 26, said of the student who along with classmates forged a national, youth gun control movement following the Feb. 14 massacre at her high school in Parkland, Florida.

(7,402 posts)Today was about the uncontrolled gun violence that rocks America. Tomorrow it will be the must watch 60 minutes show, which will have many twists and turns.
And MAGA just got a new cheating meaning. (This needs more exposure)

(58,785 posts)who came back with 10-20 filled out forms each. League of women voters sent 50, with apparently similar results.
The idea of registering and voting is out there among kids across the nation, mentioned repeatedly by the students themselves in tweets, from the stage, on TV, etc. Rock the Vote's registration function is right up front for people who checked out the march's website. So many things have been done right.

(10,437 posts)college kids so we completely obliterate the republicans in 2018 and 2020. These young people don't buy into the NRA, trump or republican BULLSHIT and we all must help out.
In 2008, my wife and I participated in registering 1000 new VOTERS...imagine if we all do this?

(9,958 posts)Several tables were set up to register voters, and speakers reminded people that the only way to create change is to vote. I am so impressed with these young people. One of the speakers at my march, the mayor, said that these young people have accomplished more in the past two months for gun control than his generation has in the past two decades. So true. Ever since Reagan and the Republican Partys decision to sow hatred and anger just to get elected, our country has been going down a path that most of us have not liked. There have been wins, such as greater freedoms and rights for LGBTQ, but Republicans divisive tactics have pushed the country to the brink of real potential loss of our democracy. Prior to this amazing group of young people standing up and shouting Enough! I must confess that I was wondering whether we would be better off as two separate countries. But theres hope that the minority currently controlling the government can be voted out and will begin to fade back under their rocks!
