Cohen's Lawyer Sends Stormy Daniels Cease And Desist After CBS Interview

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Caitlin MacNeal | March 26, 2018 7:44 am

A lawyer representing Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney, sent a cease and desist letter to the lawyer for Stephanie Clifford, the porn actress who uses the name Stormy Daniels, on Sunday night after Clifford appeared on CBS’ “60 Minutes” to discuss her alleged affair with Trump.

Cohen’s lawyer, Brent Blakely, charged that Clifford made “false and defamatory statements” during the “60 Minutes” interview, specifically when she claimed that she was threatened in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011 not to discuss her relationship with Trump.

Blakely denied that Cohen has anything to do with the threat.

“In truth, Mr. Cohen had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any such person or incident, and does not even believe that any such person exists, or that such incident ever occurred,” Blakely wrote. “You and your client’s false statements about Mr. Cohen accuse him of criminal conduct and constitute, among other claims, libel per se and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It would appear that your statements of alleged criminal conduct are being made to obtain an advantage in a civil dispute, which is also improper.”

She said she could ID him if she ever saw him again, but she didn't know who it was or who sent him. Cooper pressed her whether the person was sent from Cohen. IIRC, she said she assumed he was, but she did not know for sure.

So, this letter basically affirms the thug was sent by Cohen.

1. He has a NDA with Stormy that he was very involved with - to the extent of giving her $130,000 of his own money to keep her mouth shut

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/stormy-daniels-describes-her-alleged-affair-with-donald-trump-60-minutes-interview/
2. "... But we did receive a letter from Mr. Trump's attorney Charles Harder, who asked that we show on camera and read on air one of the statements Stormy Daniels signed in January, denying reports she'd had an affair with Mr. Trump. It says, in part:

"My involvement with Donald Trump was limited to a few public appearances and nothing more."

Those two things are difficult to coexist. You do not need to pay $130,000 to someone if their "... involvement with Donald Trump was limited to a few public appearances and nothing more."

And you do not need to get a signed statement to that effect when you can just brush it off.

Stormy signed that statement more than a year later without any further compensation. She had to be under some kind of pressure or threat for those two events to coexist. By all appearances so far, Cohen intimidated Stormy Daniels to lie - not a good thing for a lawyer to do in terms of ethical conduct.

Stormy Daniels lawyer ought to be making a complaint to the California bar (or wherever the jurisdiction is) against Mr Cohen and this lawyer who originally represented her and Karen McDougal because if that bar finds a third women with a NDA with these two lawyers involved, it's game over for Cohen, Trump and that original lawyer. They'll lose their ability to practice law and Trump is in deep trouble beyond the lawsuits that will result.

Unless Stormy had her mobile phone in camera/video mode and used it, or had a witness, that's pretty tough to prove.

So it gets down to "Who 'ya gonna' believe?"

A man who did "business" with guy with a Mafia-linked brokerage firm?
A man who did "business" with a guy who pleaded guilty to racketeering as part of a $40 million stock fraud scam?
A man who did "business" with an investor accused in a $55 million money-laundering scheme?
A man who did "business" with three of his condo owners who belonged to a Russian-American organized crime group and international crime boss based in Russia?
A man who did "business" with owner of two Trump condos indicted in a money-laundering scheme involving a former prime minister of Ukraine?
A man who did "business" with a union leader found guilty of racketeering?
A man who did "business" with a guy convicted of running a stock scheme involved with members of the Mafia?
A man who did "business" with Nicodemo “Little Nicky” Scarfo of the Philadelphia mob, a vicious killer who was Atlantic City’s mob boss?
A man who did "business" with a former mayor who was indicted and pleaded guilty to extortion?
A man who did "business" with a Teamsters official who had ties to mob bosses Carlo Gambino and Paul Castellano?
A man who did "business" with an associate of Mob boss John Gotti; who lost $12 million in Trump casinos, flew in Trump's personal helicopter - and once convicted of tax fraud?
A man who did "business" on a project in Panama riddled with brokers, customers, and investors with links to drug trafficking and international crime?
A man who did "business" on a project in Panama that investigators called “a vehicle for money laundering"?
A man who did "business" in Panama with an investor who pleaded guilty in a federal court in Miami to conspiracy to import cocaine?
A man who did "business" with S&A Concrete, whose owners were “Fat” Tony Salerno, head of the Genovese crime family, and Paul “Big Paul” Castellano, head of the Gambino crime family to build his Trump Tower, not with steel, but 58 stories of concrete?
A man whose personal lawyer is known as "the fixer"?

Or a porn star...?

Thanks for the extensive legwork! You dug up a lot!

One thing I never hear often enough, when the whining and yowling and double-talking and excuse-making starts, is how NOT ONE of these things is happening in a vacuum. NOT ONE of these things qualifies as an “oopsie” or a “mulligan” or a “but-he’s-new-at-this,-give-him-time” OR a “it’s-just-a-coincidence” thing!

Seriously! How-the-hell many “coincidences” must there be before some of these dingdongs finally start waking up? How many hot-‘n’-cold-running-Russians must there be, coming out of every doggone faucet all over that campaign and that White House before the stench finally becomes too unavoidable?

Good Grief, if this were President Obama or Hillary, CRIMINY! Either of them would have been tried, convicted, tortured, executed, buried, and then dug back up so it could all start up again a second time!

WTF Cohen, can't you handle this yourself? You did pay her, as you say, out of your own pocket, totally doing your buddy Trump a solid, and it was in no way related to the $129,999.99 payment you got from the Trump Campaign.

She never said or even implied that it was Cohen or someone acting for him who threatened her - it was just some guy in a parking lot. She said she didn't know who he was but that she would recognize him if she saw him again. Presumably she has seen Cohen again and never said it was him. But by firing off this letter Cohen's lawyer seems to be acknowledging that Cohen somehow was involved. Dumb move, but what we've come to expect from this crowd.
